The J.Sikora Reference turntable is on the cover of Stereophile Magazine ! Michael Fremer reviewed J.Sikora’s flagship model for the July issue.
It was Sunday afternoon, and Nick Doshi (Doshi Audio), Jeff Joseph (Joseph Audio), and Jeff Fox (Notable Audio, J. Sikora, Command AV) were relaxing. It was all smiles, jokes, and laughter with this crowd. I scanned the room for illegal substances. Then legal substances. Nothing. Nada. Finally, I got it. It’s the music!
Analog glory came in a J. Sikora Standard MAX turntable ($19,995/$20,995 starting 6/1/2022), J. Sikora KV12 VTA tonearm ($8495/$8995 starting 6/1/2022), Lyra Etna SL ($9995) and Benz LP-S ($6000) cartridges. There was digital too, in the shape of an Aurender A20 Server/DAC ($14,000), streaming files from a laptop. Tubed goodness was translated by the Doshi Audio Evolution preamplifier ($19,995), Doshi Audio Evolution class-AB monoblocks ($43,995/pair, 160Wpc into 4 ohms), Doshi Audio Evolution phono stage ($19,995), and a Doshi Audio Evolution tape stage ($19,995). Jeff Joseph’s Joseph Audio Pearl Graphene floorstanding speakers ($43,999/pair, specified sensitivity of 86dB/2.83V/m and impedance of 8 ohms), and Cardas Clear Beyond cables (prices vary) finalized the rig.
I’ve heard Jeff’s Pearl Graphene speakers a number of times, and this was undoubtedly their best performance to date, confirming the fantastic synergy of this well sorted system. The sound was resonant, big, clear, and beautiful.
Playing Dean Martin’s Dream with Dean LP, Dino’s every inhale and exhale blew through the small room as if meant to extinguish our flames. If we’d been smoking something. Which we weren’t. With music this beautiful and hi-fi this wonderful, the music is all you need.
REVIEW by TAS Staff Apr 26th, 2022 — A turntable that is as visually appealing as it is sonically. Few, if any, ’tables in this price range can boast this level of precision machining, which extends to everything from the platter to the weighty damping puck. The result is superlative sound. With the proprietary Sikora tonearm, the ’table delivers effortless and snappy vinyl playback. It also produces a soundstage and bass that are particularly winning on orchestral pieces. Its wealth of impressive attributes mean that the Standard Max cannot be deemed anything other than a top contender.
— The best of tubes and the best of solid-state in a fully dual mono design with top-shelf components and sophisticated power supplies.
— A tribute to some of Dynaudio’s most legendary bookshelf speakers.
— Transparent is moving to ”Generation 6” of their cables. So we are blowing-out of current stock of Generation 5 cables, both demo and new.

When a show room plays great music, the job of listening is easy. That’s true for civilians and press alike.
Virginia based audio dealer Command Performance AV and distributor Well Pleased AV played songs from Kraftwerk’s Tour de France, New Orleans innovator and jazz trumpet king Louis Armstrong’s Satchmo Plays King Oliver, then back to France, this time on vinyl, for the jazz-meets-electronic-grooves of trumpeter Erik Truffaz’s ReVisité.
Equipment in the room included a J.Sikora Initial MAX turntable ($12,995) with J.Sikora KV-12 VTA tonearm ($8495) and a Koetsu Urushi Sky Blue cartridge ($6495). Phono preamplification duties were performed by a Doshi Audio V3.0 EVO phono stage ($21,995). Alternately, an Origin Live Illustrious MK4 12″ tonearm ($2983) and Benz Micro Ruby Z cartridge ($4000) were used.
On the digital side, an Innuos Statement 1TB music server ($15,100) and Innuos PhoenixNET network switch/router ($3499) controlled file-based playback.
Amplification? A Gryphon Audio Diablo 300 integrated amplifier ($16,900) drove a beautiful pair of Swedish-made QLN Prestige Five speakers in the upgraded Piano Burl Walnut finish ($20,000/pair, $17,000/pair in a standard finish). Power was improved by a GigaWatt PC-4 EVO+ power conditioner equipped with a w/LS-2 Evo power cord ($14,500). Signal transmission duties were handled by Swiss Cables Diamond speaker cables ($6800/3m), RCA interconnects ($3700/2m), and Power cords ($2750/1.5m). An SGR Symphony Model V Rack ($2600) and Gryphon StandArt amplifier stand ($4100) cradled the electronics.
This system sounded fantastic: clear and dynamic with exceptional scale, imaging, and a sleek musicality that left me satisfied. The rig reproduced Tour de France exceptionally well, revealing ambient and spatial cues that allowed the music to have space and breathe, while its low-end, particularly bass drum, had more tone and texture than I’ve heard from this well-loved (by me) album. The Truffaz disc came across in a wide, deep stage, with a trumpet that floated across the speakers. The QLN Prestige Five speakers made me hungry for more.
— Congratulations to J Sikora for yet another award, this time a 2022 Editor’s Choice from The Absolute Sound for the Standard Max!

The inspiration for the new A3 was driven by the engineering challenge to create not only a full range loudspeaker that incorporates similar design philosophies found in higher-end Magico offerings but to provide an entry level category that is accessible to a new and wider audience of music enthusiasts.
A 2.5-way design incorporating the revolutionary .75-inch textile tweeter first debuted in the gibbon X and two long-throw paper woofers in a compact but wide bandwidth, very high performance package.
Be surprised by Kanta, highly original speakers that will reconnect you with your music.
Command Performance is pleased to have in stock, for your listening pleasure, the new Special Forty anniversary speaker. This design draws on 40 years of cutting-edge research – and brings it totally up to date with Dynaudio’s most celebrated techniques and technologies. Hear it today at CPAV!
Hana translates to “brilliant and gorgeous,” and their cartridges have gained a well-deserved reputation for sonic excellence well beyond their price point!

It’s been nearly two years and one global pandemic since Apple released Jason Mo moa’s visually-impaired woodsman show See . Now that all the Birdbox comparisons have faded into obscurity, the show is ready for See -son two ( a- thank you ). The second season, set to premiere on August 27, adds a big name with big biceps: Dave Bautista sporting a big bushy beard. Apple’s feeling confident that this will be the year you watch See, because they already picked the show up for season three.
In case you forgot , See takes place 200 years in the future. Following a pandemic that wiped out all but two million people, the survivors no longer have their sense of sight. Mo moa plays Baba Voss, a warrior and chieftain who has to protect a pair of twins that can see. The show co-stars Alfre Woodard, but season two adds an interesting wrinkle: What if a scary Dave Bautista was around to terrorize his brother Baba Voss. Here’s how Apple describes it:
“See” takes place in the far future and humankind has lost its sense of sight. In season two, Baba Voss is fighting to reunite his torn-apart family and get away from the war and politics that surround him, but the more he moves away, the deeper he gets sucked in, and the emergence of his nemesis brother threatens his family even more.
See was one of Apple’s first shows, from a time before people consciously used Apple TV+, a time before everyone was asking, “Have you seen Ted Lasso ?” It’s also not that great, apparently. In her season one review, The A.V. Club’s Danette Chavez said, “ See is part of Apple TV+’s inaugural slate of programming, but it resembles enough of the bleak tales that have proliferated in recent years that it’s unlikely to be the series that sets the new streamer apart.” Is Bautista brave enough to change that? Find out on August 27.

Something went wrong, but don’t fret — let’s give it another shot.
