This wasn't meant to have anything to do with gender roles.
They're not meant to be children, just chibis, which is less to do with age and more to do with gratuitous cuteness.
Vechs is smirking because he's trying to seem as if he could plausibly be sinister. He's got a bow because ingame he's got an amazing bow, is planning on opening a bow shop and gifted Aurey a bow.
Aurey the "happy little nice princess" has a dress because Aurey's skin happens to have a dress, and a flower because she gifted Vechs a flower and mentioned her favorite was a hydrangea. She also mentioned having spent several hours collecting flowers for dye.
I just drew them how I see them. :/

You forgot the praetorian guard on the restoration side stepping on Aurelian's fingers.
Man, Aurelian is probably the most under appreciated roman emperor.
In 5 years saving the Roman empire from collapse by fighting hordes of barbarians and usurpers. He should be one of the ''good emperors'' along Trajan, Hadrian and Marcus Aurelius.
That is likely a bust of Claudius Gothicus (an emperor who was great in his own right).
Weird. This picture appears in the search results when you google both of them. Thanks for noticing.
On a year-by-year basis, he probably got more meaningful stuff done than any Emperor before or after him, with the exception of Augustus. Rome was robbed of an incredible leader when he was killed.
