Tourists, their cameras already at the ready, pointed towards the shimmering water, the sunlight turning it into a dazzling spectacle. Even the usually stoic ferry commuters seemed to sport a slightly brighter disposition, their faces tilted upwards, absorbing the unexpected warmth. The wind, which had been a gentle caress, suddenly decided to play rough, whipping hair across faces and sending leaves pirouetting. The sky, in a move that felt like a personal affront, began to darken with alarming speed. It was a stark, albeit brief, reminder: Auckland’s weather, much like a capricious friend, can change its mind in an instant. So while the sun might be having its moment, a little preparedness, a trusty umbrella tucked away, is always a sensible companion.
