Digital nomads. Work from anywhere

Company: Company

Telescope Live is a professional-grade deep-sky astronomy and astrophotography platform, operating robotic observatories across Chile, Spain, and Australia. We give astronomers, astrophotographers, and educators direct access to research-class telescopes and the data they produce.
*The Role*
We're looking for a graduate-level science writer with a background in astronomy or astrophysics to write regular news-style articles for the Telescope Live blog. Each piece summarises a recent astronomy study or discovery for a general but science-literate audience explaining the context, what the researchers found, and why it matters. This is an ongoing freelance position with a minimum weekly commitment, plus the opportunity for additional paid articles on request.
*Responsibilities*
* Write a minimum of one article per week, summarizing a recent astronomy/astrophysics paper or discovery (typically 500–700 words)
* Source appropriate recent studies (e.g. via arXiv, journal press releases, JWST/observatory announcements) or work from stories assigned by the team
* Accurately translate technical findings, methodology, results, and implications into clear prose for a general but informed audience
* Correctly cite the original journal source and credit any images used
* Format and publish articles directly to our blog (Drupal CMS), including images, captions, tags, and metadata
* Take on additional commissioned articles as needed, paid per piece
* Work to an agreed weekly turnaround
*Essential Requirements*
* A graduate-level degree (or equivalent demonstrable expertise) in astronomy, astrophysics, physics, or a closely related field — sufficient to read and accurately interpret primary research papers
* Demonstrable science writing experience, ideally with published examples
* Excellent written English with a clear, concise style suited to a general audience
* Comfortable formatting content for web publication (headings, image placement, captions, internal linking)
* Reliable and self-managed, able to consistently meet a weekly deadline
*Desirable*
* Familiarity with Drupal, or experience with another major CMS (WordPress, etc.) sufficient to pick up Drupal quickly
* Existing familiarity with current astronomy literature and major observatories/missions (JWST, ESA, etc.)
* Hands-on astrophotography experience
*Commitment & Pay*
* Minimum of one article per week (typically 500–700 words), with additional articles available on request and paid separately
* Rate - negotiable based on experience and accuracy/quality demonstrated during a trial period
* Freelance/contractor basis — invoiced per month
