So I know this website sometimes gets a bad rap, but I have begun archiving erotic literature websites (my r/DataHoarder is showing through :-) ) and I ran an entire archive of asstr.org in May of 2017. The website is part of a non-profit called the Internet Free Literature Corporation and is a 501(c)(3).
Funny thing is, I archived the site in May and the site has a major server failure in June/July and is still recovering from this failure. Several of their systems are still undergoing updating and being fixed from the transfer to a better server setup. There have been worries that the site will go down and there is over 20 years worth of stories from both the ASSTR website and from the alt.sex.stories.moderated newsgroup.
For those who don't know about the website, the website is basically an easily assessable source for alt.sex.stories.moderated newsgroup sex stories that have been posted over the years. It also has it's own platform on the website to share stories. Authors can have access to their own FTP directory and create their own pages/sites to share their stories.
Some of the material on this website and in this archive involves characters who may be underage or who may be involved in "obscene" situations.
While this website and it's contents are protected under the first amendment to the United States Constitution (as the site is hosted in the US), this may not be the case in other countries and the information may be deemed obscene or illegal depending on your jurisdiction (even though they are all written stories). Make sure you check your local laws regarding erotic literature involving underage characters or involving things like violence or rape.
From the ASSTR.ORG FAQ section regarding "child pornography" (in the context that people are seeing the written stories and assuming it is child pornography. The website does not condone or advocate any abuse and/or sexual exploitation of children):
Title 18, Part I, Chapter 110, Section 2256 of the US Code defines what constitutes child pornography in the United States, the country where ASSTR resides. The key part of this definition is paragraph 8, including subparagraph A, which states in part: "'child pornography' means any visual depiction ... where the production of such visual depiction involves the use of a minor..."
As for the legality of some of the more offensive works at ASSTR, particularly those containing underage characters, the US Supreme Court ruled on April 16, 2002 that adult material depicting minors but that was not made through the use of any actual minor is protected free speech. The ruling was against the Child Pornography Prevention Act of 1996 (CPPA) and the entire ruling is available via Findlaw.com.
While I may not personally agree with all the information on this website, as part of the idea of archiving our internet's history and preservation of things that might not be considered "priority" by others, I have decided to embark on archiving erotic literature, as there is a lot of insight into our time and cultures through this kind of writing (from a psychological and anthropological perspective). I do not support or condone some of the activities that may take place in these writings. But, because I value the rights enshrined in the U.S. Constitution, I do support the authors' freedom to write it.
I have had a couple people request this archive from me before so I created a torrent for it and will share that with the sub. If there are not enough seeders for some reason, please message me and I can get you a link to a direct download from my private server to help with the seeding. Ty. Nifty, Literotica, and AO3 are on my list to archive. I've been very busy and haven't had a chance to run my scripts to start their collection. But ty for other sites to look into and archive.
I mostly started with asstr because I was introduced to it first many years ago for sex stories and really enjoy the wide variety of stories they have, plus because of its very very very wide open policy on material, it's unique in that aspect, as I have not seen any other erotica site that allows underage characters (I think a couple sites allow 16, but no younger). Plus many sites also don't allow very violent or "Gore" style writings, or some are even against non consent stories at all. Along with their server issues that existed before their major outage a month later, this was a high priority site in my eyes as I think it's drawn a lot of controversy over the years.
Honestly I've been wanting to setup my own asstr style site dedicated to the same content and free speech protections that asstr provides. I've been researching things like ftp servers to use or different tools to have a story archive similar to their setup. But I'm no expert so the going is slow.
I'm pretty open about my sexuality and stuff, since I am trans and right leaning politically, I try to help inform those I run into about the facts on things like transgender issues or other things, so I don't mind being open on those issues. I know it can be difficult for a lot of people but I'm trying my best to help spread the truth and not drag too much feeling or emotion into it.
If you have any other sites to add to my archive list I'd greatly appreciate it. I'm thinking about setting up a small page on my server to keep track of the archiving of these sites now that I've got a decent list to work with.

I haven't had a chance to start archiving other websites but I'm going start picking up my archiving during the holiday break from school coming up. The ePub format is by far the most open of any of the e-book formats. You can read ePub files with iPad or with any decent e-reader.

While there has been written plenty of steamy fiction throughout history, they seemed to be ignored a bit on gutenberg.org. When they are available as ePub, the conversion often renders the text unreadable. I consider using some of my time at creating some readable epub versions. Most of the stories you stumple upon as a reader won't be available as ePub. However, it isn't that hard to convert stories to ePub yourself.

Pocket is a rather good system that will let you save a copy of an online text and let you read it on various devices. Unfortunately, it doesn't support raw .txt files - it just ignores them. Requires that you creates a free account that you can save the texts to.
The only drawback is that a lot of stories on asstr are in clean .txt format with forced line break. None of the converters can strip away the forced line break - instead they preserve them using

While Calibre primary is an ePub manager, you can also use it for ePub creation, so that is another choice. Here's a step-by-step guide on converting HTML and Microsoft Word formats using Calibre.
