Home Senior Resources AARP versus AMAC – Comparison of Benefits 2021
Although there are a number of senior citizen interest groups vying for your membership fees, AARP is by far the most well-known. However, does membership have its privileges in this case? Let’s look at the benefits that the liberal-leaning AARP provides in comparison to the conservative-leaning AMAC. It’s a match up, AARP versus AMAC. Let’s compare their benefits.
You no longer need to be retired to join AARP, nor are there any age restrictions. However, the bulk of the 38 million members are over the age of 50. Those that are under 50 have an Associate Membership, which excludes benefits that are age-restricted.
AARP provides more than just six issues of AARP The Magazine and ten of the AARP Bulletins each year. The size and political strength of AARP mean that it can provide all sorts of benefits to its members. Hundreds of companies want to be associated with this powerhouse.
Although AARP is not an insurance provider, various agencies have partnered up to provide members with discounts. You can save up to 20% on your home insurance policy with the Home Insurance Program from The Hartford. The Hartford also offers AARP specific renter’s insurance.
AARP MyVision Care through EyeMed has three different vision insurance plans available to AARP members. Delta Dental insurance guarantees you’ll be accepted as an AARP member. The AARP Hearing Care Program is there for your hearing needs with discounts. AARP Prescription Discounts covers prescription costs not covered by other policies or Medicare Part D.
Members also qualify for discounts for AARP Long-Term Care Options from New York Life and Short-Term Care Insurance from Medico. Through AARP, you can enroll in a variety of supplemental insurance plans if you are already enrolled in Medicare Parts A and B.
Membership gives you access to AARP Travel Center Powered by Expedia, plus discounts on excursions, car rentals, airport parking, restaurants, and hotels. Presenting your AARP card will save you 15% at Denny’s or 10% at the Outback Steakhouse and other select eating establishments.
Regal movie theater tickets and refreshments are discounted throughout the U.S. with your membership. Get a 40% discount on books through the AARP Bookstore. AARP also has free online games to keep your mind sharp as you age.
UPS domestic and international shipping is discounted to AARP members. AT&T and Consumer Cellular provide discounts on specific wireless plans. SimpliSafe home security systems can be purchased at a discount.
Membership gives you access to AARP Job Board, which lists employment opportunities specifically for older adults. If your CV needs to be updated, you can take advantage of the free resumé review or purchase a discounted resume writing package and have an expert do it.
AARP also publishes apps and books, but you don’t have to be a member to utilize them.
AMAC stands for the Association for Mature American Citizens. Although it is a relative new-comer to the over 50 advocacy groups, having been founded in 2007, it has a vocal conservative voice. Currently, the organization is based in Lady Lake, Florida. Let’s continue this AARP versus AMAC comparison by focusing our attention on this organization.
Yearly membership fees are $16. Spouses can be added with no additional cost.
AMAC members have unlimited access to the official website and the bimonthly AMAC Magazine. Members can contact lawmakers and AMAC professionals through social media and by phone. Companies whose goals align with the conservatism of AMAC have partnered up to provide discounts and benefits for members.
The Travelers Indemnity Company offers a discount for homeowners who are AMAC members. They also provide discounted auto insurance. AMAC Roadside Assistance is also available. Members Receive $100 off Vehicle Protection Plans through CarChex. AMAC also has driving classes that can help you lower your insurance premium.
Careington offers discounts to AMAC members in its Key Vision Plan. It has 44,000 participating facilities in the country. Costs and savings will vary depending on location. National Insurance Carriers offers AMAC members discounted plans for the under 65 age group and short term medical insurance.
The AMAC Prescription Discount Card is available for use at 59,000 pharmacies. Savings vary depending on the medication and the pharmacy. A phone call to the MAC Senior Resources Network can help you find the Medicare plan that fits your needs, including Medicare Supplement policies from private insurance carriers, Medicare Advantage Plans, and Medicare Prescription Drug Plans.
AMAC members can take advantage of exclusive discounts for Brookdale Senior Living services.
AMAC members can print out coupons for discounts at Friendly’s restaurants. Small groups are eligible for savings up to 40% on excursions through the Collette travel agency. AMAC members save 30% on medical travel insurance through AMAC Emergency Assistance Plus.
AMAC members can purchase discounted movie tickets and received discounts at Disney World, Six Flags, and select Broadway shows. Through AMAC Car Rentals, you can get reduced prices on car rentals and upgrades. With AMAC Explore, you can get discounted hotel bookings.
Pure Talk USA will give you a free iPhone with your AMAC membership and the purchase of a $45 monthly plan. There is also an AMAC Talk, Text & Data plan available for $10 a month, which covers your AMAC membership for three years. Club Cellular will give AMAC members a 5% discount on rates and accessories.
AMAC membership gets you a free HD security camera and two months free monitoring with a new security system purchase from SimpliSafe. Office Depot has several discounts only for AMAC members.
AMAC Brand apparel, specialty foods and wine, gift baskets, and Omaha steaks all offer discounts. AMAC members save $6 for each $25 restaurant certificate purchased through Restaurants.com. Your AMAC Membership Card will get you 10-20% off your purchase at participating Long John Silver’s.
AMAC membership gives you access to AMAC’s Social Security Report website and National Social Security Advisors to help you keep track of your SS benefits. PenFed Credit Union will cover your AMAC membership each year when you renew using its credit card. AMAC members can receive up to $12,000 cash back when buying or selling a home through Paragon Home Resources. AMAC members can get $1000 credit towards closing costs from Fellowship Home Loans.
So which organization should you support with your membership fee, AMAC or AARP? As you can see, many of the benefits are similar. Some AMAC offers are limited in their locations, so make sure your area is covered before deciding. It comes down which organization’s benefits fit your lifestyle the best, and perhaps, your political leanings.

Common sense and truly mainstream?! That would be funny of it weren’t so sad
Does AMAC provide hotel discounts and Roadside assistance the same as AARP. Are they included in membership fees or purchased separately?
Vituperative remarks aside, I’ve decided to put my money where my mind is in supporting what I believe in. AMAC isn’t perfect in that area, but its common sense editorial comments supporting the truly mainstream Americans are important to me. AARP simply doesn’t do that. I’ve been with AMAC since 2009, and still believe they offer value supporting my beliefs.
AARP’s public service initiatives are handled by the AARP Foundation, not AARP the for profit corporation. One of those efforts is the AARP tax preparation volunteer program, which receives many millions of dollars annually from the IRS to provide tax preparation assistance to seniors and low income clients. Long story short the AARP Foundation is the PR arm that is a tiny part of the AARP empire and its CEO who is paid millions per year. Their political lobbying has been so aggressive that Congress has threatened to take away its tax exempt nonprofit status.
Oh boy, the Trumptards are here in the comment section tarding out of their teeny tiny minds! Ha Ha, your boy lost and the Republican party is dead! Ha Ha!
So typical the first liberal comment is name calling. Am I surprisesd
…NO
Move to China.
A moron like you couldn’t possibly make sense, so just stop trying !!!
Stick to things where you can at least appear to be knowledgeable, I would suggest the Kardashians or that Bieber fellow ….
This is exactly the type of behavior I left the Democratic party because of. I really wish the liberal mindset would grow up and embrace reality for once. I’m tired of living in Fantasyland and drinking unicorn piss with these people. So glad I joined the better half of my family and became a Republican.
Yeah for you. Please continue to open people’s minds 🙏. Meanwhile AMAC is my choice.
Trump’s a long way from dead my friend the evidence of this massive election conspiracy and fraud is about to come out my friend you guys are screwed
Aaaany second now…and after the thousandth attempt to prove fraud has failed once again….annnny second now…….
I bet you’re all about diversity and inclusion.
I agree that Trump is done and over with. He will not run again. He will be too old by 2024 and being effectively banned from the internet will keep him from raising the funds he would need to make another run.
Unfortunately the Republican Party will still be around for awhile longer but hopefully they’ll moderate their tone after they get beat in 2024. They don’t appeal to Millenials or Gen X and their base of Boomers isn’t exactly growing.
As for AMAC, it is a shill group for the far right. It disguises itself as a retirement group but aligns itself in lockstep with the far right wing of the Republican Party. It gets into politics that have absolutely zero to do with senior citizens like abortion. Abortion is not a senior issue. Few if any retired people will be getting abortions. And AMAC would side with the very same people when it comes to cutting or gutting our benefits. And those benefits include Obamacare.
So no, I won’t be joining AMAC. Some of us are smart enough to tell enemy from friend.
You can’t be too smart, Kev, if you think a few far-left social media platforms banning Trump will have much impact on his fundraising and getting the word out. Most of us aren’t on Fakebook or Twatter or those others. We know what to follow and they are all about President Trump and Making America Great Again. Seventy million of us haven’t gone away. President Trump hasn’t gone away. We’re just warming up; you’ll be hearing a LOT from us so buckle up!
I’m behind you Doc C.!!!!! You are so right. AMAC is the best alternative.
Why do you say abortion is not a Senior issue?
Our GRANDCHILDREN are the ones being aborted.
A mind is a terrible thing to waste. What is it about the “inclusive” Liberals that they are SO TERRIFIED of an opposing view that they can’t just disagree — ON SPECIFIC POINTS — but have to name call and put down and classify others as ignorant for disagreeing??? I think it’s because they are SO INSECURE in their own positions and they know just how wrong and ludicrous their beliefs are that they can’t deal with an opposing view any other way.
Schools need to open back up. Don’t 12 yr olds have anything better to do with their time than visit senior citizen pages?
Why does TDS patient always rear their ugly head? Especially in this type of discussion where people are sharing and simply trying to make a decision. So disgusting and sad.
Bottom line AARP gives money to far left causes and AMAC doesn’t
“eye roll” here – TRUMP WON – SAVE AMERICA Poor ‘lil B cannot even speak – much less walk up stairs! :) He’s a puppet for Killiary and O’bummer
Trump Won. Liberal leftists cheated, lied, and got away with being frauds. Do you not realize what has been jeopardized; your vote, your major voice!!!
I thought this was about AARP and AMAC why the name calling and you’re hatred.
Yeah Pal.. You’d be either dead or speaking Mandarin in a sweat shop somewhere if it weren’t for Trump Tard.. Bow to thee…
Is that all you’ve got????? Sorry you have been so brainwashed & lied to
THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU, “Trumpisaloser” poster. I was just interested in reading this article to compare AARP and this new guy in town, AMAC, and see what their membership base is like, among other things. And then I read YOUR comment….
I just dropped AARP, and joined AMAC, 3 yr. membership. YOU were the deciding factor.
Your man is now leading the country into communism. Freebies for all illegals and you’re paying for it. Forcing vaccines that have killed thousands while letting infected immigrants into the country to spread disease and blame republican governors. This administration is working for Satan.
😂😂😂 Textbook example of “Trump Derangement Syndrome”. I suggest you seek mental help immediately. Oh, and please, PLEASE, until you’re no longer a threat to yourself or anyone else, DO NOT procreate!
😳😳😂😂😂
Thank you Charlotte for finalizing our decision to join AMAC.
AARP supports BLM/Antifa which both organizations call for the destruction and dismantling of America and all it stands for.
After reading this, I will call and cancel AARP tomorrow. I just joined AARP 2 weeks ago. I had no idea Amac existed.
AMAC leans right – so yes, there is an inherent bias, but the difference is that they readily admit that, so that their membership can make an informed judgement.
AARP does not admit their left leanings and in fact go to significant lengths to claim an unbiased stance that is not supported by their activities and publications.
So both have a bias, but only AMAC is up front about it.
Based on that alone, who do you want to do business with ?
Thank you my patriot brothers and sisters
This will tell you all you need to know about AARP.
They are making billions off you via insurance back channels by supporting Obamacare.
I switched from AARP to AMAC because AARP does not condemn, not even disagree with the BLM (Black Lives Matter) organization and their views on the physical destruction and moral ruination of the United States and it’s core values. AARP also refuses to disagree with the idea of monetary reparations for past so called “crimes” against certain races and the removal and destruction of statues and memorials to our nation’s past history. They along with the other liberal news media refuse to acknowledge the major problems with the new administration or disagree with the damaging cancel culture ideology sweeping the country.
Just say “I joined AMAC because I don’t like black people “. It is obvious you don’t. #BlackLivesMatter
Interesting point of view. Your side seems to be the ones killing them via abortion, Kev!
AMAC has better restaurant discounts through restaurants.com often 50%. That’s a game changer. Also, they more align with conservative issues.
What is a better Medicare Supplement, AARP or AMAC? and why?
I have made a comparison through research on both AMAC and AARP. Political I am more right than left, but having once been an AARP member I became disenchanted when they opposed the changes to Social Security. That would have saved the plan in the long run and reduced the Federal deficit over the years. Entitlement funds are the bain on our financial problems. I also opposed Omaha Care. Now I think we should sets our sights on voting by mail for everyone. No question that the last election was stolen through the US Mail.
Social security is NOT an “entitlement” . WE and our employers paid into it when we worked to have an income when we retired according to the rules that they came up with.
Actually it is an entitlement. All “entitlement” means is that it is something you are entitled to. You are entitled to Social Security after working 40 quarters
(10 years) and Medicare after age 65. Entitlement doesn’t mean anything bad or undesirable.
“Entitlement”
Oxford dictionary: “ the belief that one is inherently deserving of privileges or special treatment.”
WebMD: “ The entitlement mentality is defined as a sense of deservingness or being owed a favor when little or nothing has been done to deserve special treatment. It’s the ‘you owe me’ attitude. Entitlement is a narcissistic personality trait. It’s not known exactly how this mentality develops.”
I was an AARP member until those morons decided to support Obamacare. I cancelled my membership and demanded a refund of my membership fee. I have been an AMAC member from the very beginning and love it. They support my beliefs and don’t sell me out and use my membership against me. I have no use for anyone who would be a member of AARP.
All this political BS isn’t worth the discounts. I don’t work for the Government the Government is supposed to work for the people. Lobbyists, greed, secrecy, scandal, acting like Children when they are supposed to be working.. I’ll just stick with the regular discounts and leave it at that.
Hear hear. Drop the partisan BS everyone, don’t support any organization that works for a political party.
AMAC is by far the better entity. AARP sold out it’s members for benefits that netted the management hundreds of millions of dollars. Did they share that with the members? NO! The deal was between the Obama administration and AARP management without even consulting the members.
Charlotte, I have read many a liberal diatribe on Wikipedia. I just have to wonder if you are paid by AMAC to keep people away from AARP.
A conspiracy theory is when you have no evidence and instead of discarding a theory with no proof, you add as many people to the conspiracy as necessary to cover over your lack of evidence. Anyone can edit Wikipedia, you just have to cite your sources, there are also areas where it’s discussion and you have to dig to get to those areas. If you don’t like what you read there, add to it. The Democrats are practicing free speech when they comment in those areas, why don’t you do that, instead of believing in a vague conspiracy?
Dave, a conspiracy theorist is one who questions the statements of known liars. The evidence is there for all to see, but you don’t want to see it. Lalalalala (fingers in ears but mouth going full blast).
Charlotte’s crap about Trump’s handling of COVID shows she is pretty damn stupid. We would be waiting another couple of years for the vaccine under sleepy Joe. I am 63 and healthy. I am more worried about the side effects of the vaccine than the disease. I don’t get the flu or that vaccine. I got the hep vaccine when I worked around blood. I had to tap dance on the county health dept’s forehead to get in quickly for a tetanus shot. I was thinking about comparing the benefits but Charlotte convinced me to join AMAC. Today’s liberalism is a mental disease. It is very hard
