Associate Project Manager
Digital nomads. Work from anywhereCompany: Blue Oak Consulting
As an Associate Project Manager, you will help coordinate our interrogation of financial assumptions for a major Dutch logistics firm. This role serves as a central point of contact between our analysis team and the client's operations to ensure every piece of data is verified and every deadline is met.
About Blue Oak Consulting
Blue Oak Consulting provides independent advisory on pricing, portfolio economics, capital allocation, and acquisition assumptions. We are not a traditional consulting firm focused on broad transformation programs or high level strategy decks. Instead, we interrogate specific commercial decisions where the financial stakes are high and the existing narrative is not sufficient. Our team looks past corporate language and P&L complexity to identify where value is leaking or capital is trapped. We work across sectors like software, manufacturing, and healthcare to test whether the assumptions behind a growth plan or an acquisition actually hold under pressure. We are a small, principal led firm where the people who do the work are the ones accountable for the results. We do not take transaction contingent fees, which allows us to be completely honest about whether the economics of a decision make sense. Our goal is to provide clarity through financial discipline and a healthy amount of skepticism. We stay through the execution phase because decisions that look sound in theory often fail when they meet real world friction.
The Role
This is an entry level position where you will work closely with senior partners in a fully remote environment. While many project management roles focus purely on scheduling, at Blue Oak, you will also be expected to understand the logic behind the numbers. In this role, you will help manage the flow of information during our engagement with the Dutch logistics firm, tracking progress on financial audits and helping our team stay organized as we pressure test their growth assumptions. You will be learning how to manage complex professional services engagements from the inside out, without the clutter of traditional corporate hierarchy.
What You Will Be Doing
* Organize and track the status of data requests to ensure our analysts have the information they need from the logistics firm.
* Maintain project timelines and update internal dashboards to reflect the current stage of the engagement.
* Assist in drafting reports that summarize our findings on capital allocation and portfolio economics.
* Monitor communication channels to identify potential bottlenecks in the data collection process.
* Prepare materials for weekly update meetings, focusing on factual progress rather than just aesthetic presentation.
* Cross reference incoming financial documents against project requirements to ensure no gaps exist in the records.
* Coordinate scheduling for review sessions between our principals and the client's commercial leads.
* Support the execution phase by tracking how our recommendations are being implemented on the ground.
What You Bring
* An undergraduate degree in business, economics, finance, or a related field of study.
* A high level of comfort working with data and spreadsheets, specifically organized file management in Excel.
* Strong organizational habits and the ability to process large amounts of information without losing track of details.
* A clear and direct communication style, both in writing and in video calls.
* A healthy curiosity about why businesses make the decisions they do and a desire to see if those decisions are backed by numbers.
* The ability to work independently in a remote setting while staying highly responsive to the team.
* An interest in consulting that prioritizes financial discipline over high level strategy decks.
* Patience and persistence when dealing with missing or incomplete data sets during a project.
What We Offer
* A fully remote work arrangement that offers flexibility and eliminates the need for commuting.
* Direct access to and mentorship from firm principals who execute the work alongside you.
* Attractive and competitive payment for an entry level professional services position.
* Exposure to high stakes financial analysis and complex corporate decision making processes.
* A work culture that values plain English and honest skepticism over corporate jargon.
* Technical training in project management tools and financial modeling basics.
* The chance to work on a significant project for a major Dutch logistics firm.
At Blue Oak Consulting, we believe that the best work happens when everyone is focused on the reality of the numbers rather than the comfort of a corporate narrative. We stay involved through the execution phase because we want to see our findings lead to tangible results, not just sit in a digital folder. This role is a starting point for someone who wants to understand the mechanics of business value and capital discipline in a serious, focused environment where the people doing the analysis are the ones talking to the client. We focus on getting the details right because we know that project success is built on the foundation of accurate data and disciplined follow through.
