THIS is the shocking moment three yobs attacked a lesbian couple on a bus after they refused to kiss each other.
Horrifying footage shows the teenage boys surrounding two women, hitting them with coins and imitating sexual gestures after they refused to perform a sex act in front of them.
Today the teenagers pleaded guilty to threatening Melania Geymonat, 28, and her girlfriend Christine Hannigan, 29, on the top desk of a night bus in Camden.
Highbury Corner Youth Court heard the couple had been travelling on a N31 night bus through north London when they were confronted by the youths in the early hours of May 30.
The teenagers, aged 15, 16 and 17, appeared in court today and admitted charges of harassment by using threatening or abusive words or behaviour.
A two-day trial had been scheduled to start today but the boys, who cannot be named due to their ages, changed their pleas to guilty before it began.
Prosecutor Saira Khan told the court the teenagers each played different roles during the nine-minute attack.
Each of the teenagers played separate roles during the harrowing ordeal, which is being treated by police as a "hate crime".
Pictures of the blood-covered women went viral after Miss Geymonat, referred to in court as Melania Ramirez, uploaded them on to social media, and the incident made headlines all over the world.
Ms Khan, prosecuting, said: "There is targeted behaviour towards both complainants and that does relate to their sexual orientation."
Contrary to the Met Police, District Judge Susan Williams said she didn't consider the attack to be a "hate crime" - though she did say the women were targeted because they were a same sex couple.
A defence lawyer acting on behalf of the boy throwing coins will argue tomorrow that he wasn't being hostile due to the women's sexual orientation.
There is targeted behaviour towards both complainants and that does relate to their sexual orientation.
Hate crimes carry more serious sentences, but the "hostility" or "prejudice" that motivates hate crime has no set legal definition.
Judge Williams said: "I have now seen the footage. Two young women who have also been out together for the evening behaving in an overtly affectionate fashion towards each other.
"The boys clearly found it highly amusing clustering around them, watching them like some sort of side show.
"They seem to think it is a huge joke. I think it is adolescent, childish and entirely inappropriate.
"I do not think I would describe it as a hate crime but they quite clearly targeted these two young women and behaved in an entirely inappropriate fashion.
"It is perfectly obvious the fact this is a same sex couple is what has attracted these boys in the first place and piqued their interest.
"I do regard it as an aggravating factor. I do not think I will go beyond that."
In England and Wales the monitored strands of hate crime are:
"Any criminal offence which is perceived by the victim or any other person, to be motivated by hostility or prejudice, based on a person's disability or perceived disability; race or perceived race; or religion or perceived religion; or sexual orientation or perceived sexual orientation or transgender identity or perceived transgender identity."
Arlene De Silva, prosecuting at an earlier hearing in August, said: "The two females had gone out that evening and they were being affectionate to each other."
The prosecutor said the boys then got on the bus and two started making comments about their sexuality.
The court was told one of the women tried to "deflect" the remarks but they allegedly "continued to be disrespectful to them".
Ms De Silva went on to say the group of boys wanted the couple to "perform for them" and added "they tried to get the couple to kiss while calling them names".
The prosecutor added: "She states that one of them began throwing coins at them. She said 'throw another coin and see what happens.'
"There was then an altercation between them and then the defendants left the bus."
The charges against a 17-year-old were dismissed due to a lack of evidence.
The remaining three youths, aged 15, 16 and 17, all pleaded guilty to causing harassment, alarm or distress by using threatening, abusive, insulting words or behaviour.
They each pleaded guilty to two counts of the same charge, one for each of the two victims.
One of the 17-year-olds, of Earl's Court was previously charged with possessing cannabis when attending a police station in June.
The 15-year-old, also from Earl's Court, today pleaded guilty to a further charge of handling stolen goods, a bank card belonging to Ms Ramirez.
The 16-year-old, from Wandsworth, south west London, also pleaded guilty to handling stolen goods, Ms Hannigan's Google 2XL smartphone.
At an earlier hearing, he pleaded not guilty to handling the phone, but pleaded guilty to stealing Ms Ramirez' brown handbag.
The teens had initially appeared at the youth court in north London in August.
