A 15-year-old Washington boy was arrested for an apparent attack on an Asian couple.
Tacoma Police Department didn’t release the name of the teen but said that he has been charged with second-degree assault for the incident the video of which was widely shared on social media.
The attack took place in November 2020, police said.
The boy depicted on the footage wearing a red shirt was one of the group of four teenagers who approached the Asian couple on a Washington street. The identified teen can be seen swinging to the man while the woman starts to yell.
The second video of the incident shows the teen then curses at the male victim and strikes him. However, according to CNN, “it is unclear in the video whether it is the same attacker or another person as part of a group.”
"A complaint was filed at the time, she said, but police did not connect it to the video until family members of the victims recognized their relatives in the footage," CNN reported.
On Wednesday, the male victim said that he forgave the attacker despite of the fact that he didn’t know what pushed the teen to attack him and his wife. He though suggested that it happened because they are the Asians.
"I want him to be better," he said in Korean. "I want him to know this was bad."
"I thought they were messing around with each other and accidentally bumped into me," he recalled. "So I asked, 'You OK? You OK? ... A fist came flying in, hit me ... and I started bleeding."
