Ashley Judd Announces Run for U.S. Senate in Kentucky

Acclaimed actress and activist Ashley Judd has officially declared her candidacy for the U.S. Senate, seeking to represent Kentucky as a Democrat in the 2026 midterm elections. The announcement, made during a rally in her hometown of Lexington, marks Judd’s first bid for federal office after years of political advocacy.

'I love Kentucky, and I believe it’s time for a new voice in Washington—one that fights for working families, women’s rights, and sustainable economic growth,' Judd told a crowd of supporters. 'This isn’t about party lines; it’s about people.'

Judd, 56, has long been involved in social justice causes, including gender equality, mental health awareness, and environmental conservation. A graduate of the University of Kentucky and Harvard’s Kennedy School of Government, she has worked closely with global organizations like UNFPA and Time’s Up.

Her potential opponents include incumbent Republican Senator Rand Paul, who has held the seat since 2011. Political analysts predict a fiercely contested race, with Judd’s celebrity status and progressive platform drawing national attention.

'If anyone knows how to stand up for Kentuckians, it’s Ashley,' said longtime friend and fellow activist Gloria Steinem. 'She’s fearless, compassionate, and deeply connected to her roots.'

Judd’s campaign will focus on healthcare expansion, opioid crisis response, and protecting Appalachian communities from environmental degradation.

Polls suggest a tight race ahead, but Judd remains optimistic. 'This is the people’s seat,' she said. 'And together, we’re going to win it.'
