Email from Positive Money UK

Activism we may consider to emulate.

The new Sunday Times’ Rich List has revealed £772 billion of wealth in the UK sits in the hands of just 350 families. [1]

Instead of tackling this soaring inequality, the government wants to cut welfare, with the biggest cuts to Personal Independence Payment (PIP) hitting disabled people, and pushing a quarter of a million more people into poverty. [2]

But it doesn’t have to be this way. Right now, this government is choosing to protect extreme wealth at the cost of people’s lives - but there is an alternative.

Ask your MP to tax the super rich

Tax Justice UK have identified 10 tax reforms that could raise £60 billion IN A SINGLE YEAR - over 10 times more than what this government are planning to cut.

And momentum is growing. At the start of the month, only 9 Labour Members of Parliament said they would vote against the government’s plans to cut disability benefits - now almost 120 MPs have threatened to rebel. [3]

We’ve got to keep the pressure building by contacting as many MPs as possible before the vote to let them know: we don't need to cut vital support for disabled people, we can tax extreme wealth more.

Big banks and corporations have spent decades turning our economy into a game where they always win, and we always lose - and politicians have helped them do it. These cuts are just the latest example and we need to push back.

We joined Tax Justice UK, and dozens of other organisations including War on Want and Greenpeace, outside the Treasury back in March, to protest these brutal cuts.

Now we’ve joined forces again because change only happens when we stand and fight for it together.

Thanks so much for your support,
