U-23 Asian Cup opens on 15th; 1st match against UAE at 0:30 on 17th

South Korea's under-23 U-23 soccer team, led by head coach Hwang Sun-hong, entered Doha, Qatar, the venue for the 2024 Asian Football Confederation AFC U-23 Asian Cup showdown.

Hwang Seon-hong set foot in Qatar at Hamad International Airport in Doha on Tuesday afternoon. He will play at the 2024 AFC U-23 Asian Cup, which kicks off on Saturday.

Korea aims to advance to the Olympics for the 10th consecutive time in the world at this event, which will be held in addition to the final qualifying round for the 2024 Paris Olympics. The first to third-place teams at the AFC U-23 Asian Cup will directly advance to the Olympics, while the fourth-place team will advance to the Olympics through a continental playoff against Guinea, the fourth-place team in the CAF qualifying round.

Hwang will compete with the United Arab Emirates, China and Japan in Group B to advance to the quarterfinals. The team will play the first round match against the UAE at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, followed by China at 10 p.m. on Saturday, and Japan at 10 p.m. on Sunday.

Hwang had departed for the UAE on Wednesday for an on-site training session. The Saudi Football Association reported that the team lost 0-1 to Saudi Arabia in a closed exhibition game early Friday in Korean time.

Korea has yet to fully mobilize its capacity. Yang Hyun-joon Celtic and Kim Ji-soo Brentford failed to recruit players for the upcoming event due to circumstances surrounding their teams. Bae Joon-ho, an ace player for Stoke City in the English Championship minor league, is also on the verge of being demoted, and the possibility of his participation in the Asian Cup is uncertain. 스포츠토토

Jung Sang-bin Minnesota, who plays for Major League Soccer in the U.S., will join the Hwang Sun-hong team only one day before the first round match of the championship. Including midfielder Baek Sang-hoon Seoul, who shook off his knee injury and joined the team on Wednesday, 21 of 23 Taegeuk Warriors are continuing their final inspection.
