I really like this. The leather hits you. Does anyone else smell berries? I don’t know what my nose is interpreting as sweet, but it’s pretty. I wonder how it would smell with my skin chemistry.
I just want to point out something about how this was initially marketed. Eternity was introduced in the late 80s, so it maintains that "everything but the kitchen sink" approach used to create the big and bold creations one associates with that decade. It followed the great success of...
And most overrated award goes to... For me it opens very clean woody and boozy... Pencil shavings and vodka. That's all. Maybe I am becoming nose blind to all the sweetness but for the first 45 minutes to an hour it's missing for me. My girlfriend also had a reaction of disapproval for...
I’m super surprised no one has ever mentioned how this is very reminiscent of Joop! I’ve even had people ask me if I was wearing Joop! while I was wearing this. I see some similarities…maybe the violet or iris scent you get from Une Amourette, but that’s it. This is beautiful and dark and woody...
I bought this spray as I wanted to build my collection of fruity/summery mists and I am so glad I picked this up. It smells very juicy and sweet, without being head ache inducing. I cannot really smell the agave, as I mainly pick up fruit (almost like a fruit salad (YUM). I get many compliments...
1 MILLION PARFUM by Paco Rabanne! 🌺🍹🥥 Right to the point: Definitely the opening is feminine; highly FLORAL, in a good way. Then, it turns in a punch of SWEETNESS level God! Never stop the Sugary blasts. Is it LEATHERY? isn’t the start of the smell. In fact, we need to use deeply our imagination...
@misterzelda, this isn't your typical fougere vetiver though, this is some seriously creamy vetiver
At first I was furious with this - I was on a desperate hunt for something similar in any way to Fendi (Donna late 80’s) and my signature for many years - along with the rest of the world. Basile rated high as similar but when I secured a blind buy bottle on eBay, all I could think of was what I...
One special fragrance to drape yourself in This blend dances a fine line between gourmand and naughty vintage with the initial opening of creamy french vanilla along with sweet marshmallow then warms up with the vintage amber and slight caramelly "pop" of labdanum resin. The final notes...
I'm in the midst of a slight obsession to discover more fragranced created by Daniela (Roche) Andrier, the so-called "Queen of Iris". Attraction is an interesting fragrance that I am getting to know. I purchased a half full 1.7 oz bottle very recently. Doesn't have the smell...
Meh. When you read “this perfume smells of roasted coffee and is excellent for the fall,” you get the idea of that deep, dark aroma of inhaling freshly ground coffee, the slight burnt edge of a roaster, or - at the very least - the sense of a comfy chair with a warm sweater and your favorite cup....
Beautiful.. easy to wear.. bright cooling fresh slightly spicy simple sweet tobaccoyish fragrance cheap but smells nice...Sometimes I feel the opening is alcoholic chaos & sometimes I feel like I need that fresh intense tobaccoyy alcoholic opening it's like the effect of a refreshing...
Nice nighttime, going out type of scent for colder months. There's something familiar about it. It reminds me of a different fragrance I've smelled before. Leaning feminine.
Okay, I hated this fragrance for the first wear or two. My nose read it as shaving cream / male spray-on deodorant, 90s style, and I was very put off. Almost sent it straight back… Now I’m secretly obsessed with it…keep stealing illicit sniffs from my bottle. It’s become exciting and sexy to my...
I agree with another commenter below. All I smelled on myself was medicine and licorice at the opening and then dried down into softer licorice. Doesn’t give me red velvet or original Pink Sugar at all. Thankfully I’m just testing it and can give the rest of the sample away
Excited to try this especially for the macaroon note as I've never smelled a perfume with macaron in it. But almost $70 on amazon seems a little steep for the 1.6 bottle.
These scents sound lovely and by their look & fragrance descriptions seem to be like Eau De/Body Splashes. Aren't these usually brought out in spring, & meant for use in summertime & high heat as refreshers? I'm just surprised that these are released now, in time for...
Interesting... a kind of tobacco/gourmand? I wonder how sweet the base gets. I see this scent has nothing to do with Caron TABAC BLOND....
Thank You for this article & both fragrances sound lovely by your descriptions of them. I look forward to sampling these someday soon. The fragrances that I have that remind me of wine are Chanel Allure Sensuelle EDT & EDP. & Chanel Allure EDT & EDP remind me of champagne. &...
Excellent interview John Biebel. Today I heard from two of my friends, American niche brand owners, via text after this interview, and both said something similar to this: "I wish I could've done what John did…stay out of the scene and create mystery." Public Relations are a form...
Smelled it today in store on a tester strip. I’ve written a more in depth “first impressions” review on the actual fragrance page, but here’s the short of it: “TL:DR - A mass appealing scent in a similar vein to Very Good Girl. Likely to be enjoyed by most people who smell it, but unlikely to...
Hmmm....$450 for a perfume? Or, $450 towards a new bike? I think I'll go with "towards a new bike".
What a lovely descriptive article, thank you!
Silver Mountain Water or (SMW) is the most fragrant perfume in the world ! Also my SOTD from Creed . Thank you very much Olivier Creed for making this masterpiece . Also it's a great pair for Millésime Impérial . Perfume longevity : Medium - Suitable for all seasons, specially for hot...
Oh, this hits all the right spots and I hope it's as imagined (and for that, I have high standards). Sweet-savoury hit of tar from minty pine spicy, not oversmoked. Pot-pourri (nectar-like not over-jammy) orange juice reminiscent of a slightly dried plum, cute bright apricot splash similar...
I don't mind the bottle. It's different. I much prefer it to all the Juicy Couture ones, I never understood the hype over those designs. Each to their own.
Food is medicine. That said, I have homemade chicken soup (for the soul) simmering as I read this horoscope. And thank you for the Heeley suggestions. It's difficult to find his fragrances.
Also, I barely ever comment on models but this model is beautiful here! I always wonder why people say that sad looking models don't help sell but now I definitely see what a smile can do for a campaign.
All I get is green banana in a very unsettling way that I did not enjoy.
2Moonfish67 Having a "meh" box works for me. I've a floor to ceiling cupboard just with shelves in the houses my precious (said in a Golem croak) perfumes in. All the rest are in big see through lidded boxes - piled up. I told my friend whenever I feel melancholy I go to my...
Hope to smell the Ingredients fragrance one day; nevertheless, I'd prefer Composition to the sum of Ingredients.
whatever said, Step Aboard is still one of the most affordable Duchaufour fragrances available now :)
In the last few days we have received some comments regarding our new perfume, featuring the faces of two Sicilian Moore's./ We believe in freedom of opinion, and accept the fact that not everyone will appreciate our products or understand our choices, however we have been accused (among...
I would wear anything that works in a more dressy ocassion. That said, know your seasons. Do not wear 1 Million for a summer wedding and maybe something like Acqua di Gio wouldn't work in winter.

Character or humility, brightness or modesty, uniqueness or conformity? We choose our perfumes not only according to our favorite notes or accords, but also according to our general emotions.
Does a high price reflect a higher quality fragrance, and does a low price reflect a sign of low quality? Or are perfume prices just a consequence of the marketing positioning of the brand?
All of these questions flashed through my head after I smelled the new Sensual Orchid My Paradise Armand Basi in a perfume shop and thought about the smell. This is a pleasant floral-fruity aroma. Some well-known perfume, though fresh and tender. Such spineless fragrances are commonly referred to as “ordinary.” Nothing special, you know; but the price is low. Then I spent some time with it.
At the beginning of Sensual Orchid My Paradise Armand Basi , there is not much sweetness; only the white flesh of a green apple is juicy and fresh. Then some slightly sweet and sour berry sauce and transparent, cool flowers like lily-of-the-valley, Hedione, and frangipani. A soft powdery cloud that continues the apple whiteness is far from grandmother's powder; it's warm and young. Rather, it’s something tropical, akin to shampoos and sunscreens — modest, mild, and weak-smelling, like a foamy shampoo with an apple note, and blooming orchards of apples and cherries.
A neat warm base combines the idea of purity, freshness, and whiteness with the gourmand sweetness of vanillin. A woody ambergris note was added only to make the perfume last and not to make this note the main base hero. The subtle tropical exoticism of the perfume, created by a creamy floral shade and a vanilla-ambergris drydown, is not enough to enroll it in the oriental family.
An everyday clean, fresh, and sweet perfume is what Sensual Orchid My Paradise Armand Basi is all about. The “everyday” epithet in relation to perfume: Is it good or bad? For a perfume snob and a person who doesn’t like to smell like everyone else — it's rather bad. They will look for a "very different, outstanding fragrance." Defiant, unusual, unlike, very special.
For a person who does not want to stand out from a crowd and does not want to be out of his group, it's rather good. This person does not live for the sake of originality or special collections. S/He needs to quickly and effectively solve the problem of perfume, to close the issue with smells for a while. People have a sober approach to perfumes in general. This is a non-necessary accessory and the last item for their money.
The more “ordinary” a perfume is, the more it smells like familiar others, and the more potential customers it has. The less overdoses and distortions of the formula, or hellish smoke, or earthly dirt and unknown secretions of exotic animals, the more buyers — an ordinary buyer does not need all these. Just promise to the buyer Paradise at an affordable price and give him/her what has already been approved by the population (read: a quite familiar smell he/she has smelled before), and he/she is likely to buy this fragrance.
It would be very interesting to find out from the perfumer of Sensual Orchid My Paradise , Annick Menardo , what kind of fragrances require more time, resources, and creative efforts of perfumers: the “everyday” or “special,” the typical or unique, the mass-market or niche? I'm afraid the answer will be Bois d’Argent Christian Dior and Sensual Orchid My Paradise Armand Basi , Patchouli 24 Le Labo and Comme Une Evidence Yves Rocher , Black Bulgari and Boss Bottled in terms of labor input and creativity. But for the perfumer, the popularity of his/her perfume is very important. That perfumer can meet the perfumes on the street, and the smell of "the everyday scents" they created inexpensively for the popular segment can warm their hearts more often.
Top notes: Citruses, Apple, and Red Fruits; Middle notes: Orchid, Lily-of-the-Valley, Jasmine, Violet, and Cherry Blossom; Base notes: Heliotrope, Woody notes, Amber, and Musk.
