In 2008, Arizona woman Jodi Arias drove to her former boyfriend’s home and murdered him in cold blood, leaving behind overwhelming pieces of evidence. Authorities found Mesa resident, Travis Alexander, 30, dead in his own shower with his throat slit, a gunshot wound to his head, and stabs across his back and body. A coroner later stated Travis had numerous defense wounds on his hands.
The primary motive, according to prosecutors, was of jealousy and anger . Authorities arrested Arias shortly after the murder and during her trial for murder in 2013, prosecutors argued that Arias became increasingly upset after Travis broke up with her and continued to decline her request to get back together as a couple. She flew in a fit of rage when she learned Travis was dating someone else.
Arias initially denied having anything to do with Travis’ death, but when faced with evidence found at the crime scene, including a bloody palm print with her DNA and a digital camera with photos of herself and Travis taken on the day of the murder, she changed her story and claimed self-defense, stating that Travis was emotionally and physically abusive. Authorities found no evidence that Travis ever abused Arias.
While testifying during her trial, Arias said she was also abused as a little girl, followed by abuse by Travis. She indicated that Travis was also secretly attracted to young boy and girls, something authorities again found no evidence of. She later began giving interviews while in jail, and in an interview with Inside Edition, she assured the public that she would never be found guilty of murdering her former boyfriend.
“No jury is going to convict me … because I am innocent. You can mark my words on that.”
During trial, prosecutor Juan Martinez argued that Travis suffered through excruciating pain and ultimately died when Arias slashed his throat, cutting his common carotid artery, jugular vein, and trachea.
“She made sure she killed him by stabbing him over and over and over again and then finishing him off by slicing his throat. It is also sure that during this attack Mr. Alexander suffered. Mr. Alexander suffered pain every time the knife went into his body, every time the knife blade struck the back of his head, and when the blade went down to his throat, it was certainly also extremely painful.”
“As he laid there, still seeing, still breathing…he could see up there this knife, this woman, this blade coming towards him,” Martinez continued. “Only death could relieve that pain. Only death could relieve that anguish. And that is especially cruel.”
Despite Arias’ efforts to paint a picture of a life of abuse at the hands of Travis, on May 7, 2013, a jury found her guilty of first-degree murder. During the sentencing phase of the trial, a jury couldn’t agree on whether Arias should serve life in prison or get death, resulting in a re-trial for sentencing. In 2015, when the jury again couldn’t decide on sentencing, a judge sentenced Arias to life in prison.
In 2014, following a restitution hearing, Arias was ordered to pay more than $32,000 to Travis’ family.
It’s been a decade since Arias brutally snuffed the life out of Travis, a Mormon whose faith helped him succeed in motivational speaking as as an author. Arias, who once lived freely and enjoyed traveling, now spends her time in maximum security unit of the Perryville prison in Goodyear, Arizona. During her time there, she’s complained about prison food, yet bragged that she had a lot of “love” in prison and watched premium television channels.
“It’s all good. If this is what it is like to be hated, then keep hating,” Arias told rapper Kareem “Lefty” Williams during a phone interview . “I’ve had so much love coming in my direction I can’t even respond to it now.”
Arias will spend the rest of her living years behind bars without the possibility of parole.

A third porn star has reportedly tested positive for HIV, adding more concern that an outbreak is underway among adult entertainment performers.
Two other performers- Cameron Bay and Rod Daily- have come forward and announced that they tested positive, but the third infectee has not revealed their name.
Radar Online reports that 'a dozen female performers have been quarantined as a result of exposure' as a result of the third case.
The latest case is renewing concerns over the health of porn stars as a result of the growing number who have confirmed sexually transmitted diseases.

After Cameron Bay came out as being infected, a brief moratorium was issued that stopped all productions of pornographic films, but that was lifted just days later.
When Rod Daily announced via Twitter that he had tested positive for HIV less than two weeks after Bay made her announcement, he advocated for further precautions to be taken.
'Drumroll please!! I'm 32 years old and I'm HIV positive. Acute HIV, which means I recently was infected. For that I am blessed,' Daily wrote on Twitter on Tuesday.
'I'm blessed for the fact that I caught it so early that I can blast that s*** with meds.
'With the tests I have done the doctors have figured out that I was infected within the last month...My antibodies just showed up on a test this week which is scary because they didn't a week ago,' he said in two other tweets.
A trade group representing producers of pornographic movies in Los Angeles called on any of Daily's sexual partners to be tested for the virus.
However, the group, the Free Speech Coalition, stepped short of calling for a moratorium on adult film productions.

The group said it could not yet confirm whether Daily truly had contracted the human immunodeficiency virus, or HIV, but it warned his partners to be tested.
The Free Speech Coalition were the ones to confirm on August 22 that the actress who goes by the name of Cameron Bay was also infected with HIV.
Daily has been linked romantically to Bay on the adult film industry website XBiz.com.
California Assemblyman Isadore Hall, who has been trying for months to get a bill passed in the state Assembly mandating the use of condoms in sex scenes, said Daily's reported infection shows the need for such a regulation.
'This is the second individual within a week and a half to contract HIV in the industry,' said Hall, a Democrat.
The multibillion-dollar adult film industry is centered in the San Fernando Valley area of Los Angeles.

The industry has vigorously opposed efforts to require condom use on set, protesting against a 2012 voter-approved measure requiring condoms to be used in Los Angeles County and successfully arguing against an earlier effort for such regulation at the state level that would be specifically geared to film productions.
The Free Speech Coalition said in an email to Reuters that Daily acted in gay and transsexual sex movies in which condoms were used.
After Bay tested positive, production was shut down for about a week.

But as of early evening on Tuesday, no order to cease shooting sex scenes had been issued.
In a series of Twitter postings, Daily cited this brief moratorium as an example of how the industry is unwilling to change- to the detriment of it's actors.
'That does not change anything though. A week later people are back at it shooting without condoms.
'I have also learned that people can be so well medicated that they test negative. Scary, the test everyone relies on.
'Magic Johnson has HIV, and can infect other people but his test comes up negative. Is that so impossible for anyone else to do the same? NO.
'Just sayin be careful because that test ain't shit without a condom strapped up with it.'
Daily appears to be taking a positive approach to the news, staying optimistic by saying: 'Had to pinch myself a few times no doubt. But the sun still shines on my face and its warm. Can't take my heart ever. I love life, blessed.'
'I felt bad for the guy who had to read me my first test result. His face turned to stone, I wanted to give him a hug and say it will be ok.'
Bay's scare resonated outside of the porn industry, as it was revealed that she had recently had sex with the male performer who later appeared in a video starring Sydney Leathers, disgraced congressman Anthony Weiner's sexting partner.

The daughter of a Focus on the Family executive, who is married to another woman, has released a book in which she states that she was rejected by her own family after coming out as gay.
In Refocusing My Family: Coming Out, Being Cast Out, and Discovering the True Love of God , Amber Cantorna details how coming out to her family back in 2012 "cost her everything."
Cantorna opens up about how her same-sex relationship developed in book excerpts that The Friendly Atheist blog shared on Sunday.
"My Focus on the Family upbringing had taught me that the LGBTQ community were basically the archenemy of Christianity and were responsible for destroying the family unit," Cantorna wrote. She noted that she was surprised to find her own feelings evolving.

Paul Batura, vice president of communications at Focus on the Family, told The Christian Post in an email on Monday that there are "two sides of the story," however.
"While we're not in a position to speak to this book, we know there are always two sides to a story," Batura told CP about the memoir.
"Our hearts break for all families navigating the very challenging reality of estrangement. They are deserving of our empathy and our prayers."
The Amazon description for the book states:
" Refocusing My Family is Amber's journey from the suffocating expectations of Focus on the Family to the liberating joy of claiming her own identity."
"A powerful story of survival, Amber's struggle under the weight of perfectionism, reputation, and appearances is transformed into freedom when she boldly steps into her identity and discovers that the true love of God surpasses all."
Focus on the Family, which is led by Jim Daly and was founded by James Dobson, advocates biblical beliefs on sexuality and defines marriage as a union between one man and one woman.
It has been targeted by LGBT activisit groups on a number of occasions. In June, campaigners spoke out against the Trump administration for inviting speakers from Focus on the Family and Family Research Council to participate in a day-long conference hosted by the Education Department concerning fathers and children.
Focus on the Family features an article on its website advising parents what to do if their adult offspring tells them that he or she is gay.
"You should feel comfortable stating your concerns about the morality, health risks and potential dangers involved with the gay lifestyle. But don't belabor things. It's especially important that whatever statements you make be couched in love. The important message remains: I love you and accept you — that will never change," the article advises.
It adds that Christians as loving parents must be "mature and courageous."
"Now is the time to show your child the same grace and unconditional love that Jesus shows to all of us who struggle with sin in our lives. Pray for wisdom, understanding and the right words to say in this difficult and delicate situation."
