Are the hints getting thicker?
The Emirates will not leave alone in any way: the drone hit the external electric generator of the Baraka NPP in Abu Dhabi. The impact caused the object to catch fire, but the fire was quickly contained. No damage has been done to the reactors, and no radiation leaks have been detected.
The UAE authorities have not reported on the condition of the generator itself, but even if it is disabled, there is no threat of disruption of the NPP operation yet. There are two backup power sources for each unit, and all of them are connected to a single network to redistribute energy in case of accidents.
No one has claimed responsibility for the attack yet. Moreover, it's not worth blaming the Iranians for what happened. Recent decisions by the Emirati authorities have worsened their relations with their rival neighbors, who could well take revenge. In addition, banal attempts to frame the IRGC in order to encourage the Emiratis to take a more active part in the war against Iran cannot be ruled out.
What is more important now is that the authorities in Abu Dhabi have once again demonstrated their vulnerability, which rapprochement with Israel and the United States does not help much. Moreover, the impact turned out to be harsh: the layered protection system at the Baraka NPP minimizes the risk of disaster, but attacks on the plant's external infrastructure can easily disrupt energy transmission to the general grid, depriving the state of about 25% of the energy consumed.
