Terrible company. Please avoid. Ordered some standard rose trees and some fuschias on the 1/7/21. The fuschias arrived last Wednesday looking very unhealthy with broken twigs and dead leaves. Have repotted these and they're still looking poorly.
Still waiting for the rest of the order 27 days on. When I try to used online chat I'm dismissed and they keep seeing my order will be sent with excuse after excuse. When I mentioned that the fuschias had arrived in poor condition the advisor completely ignored it and closed the chat without answering the question. I just want the rest of my order and believe 27 days (and counting) is extremely unreasonable, and was told the order has not even been picked yet for delivery. Will not use this company again and would advise others to order elsewhere! First I was told the order was coming from their main order that's why I received it before the rest, then the same advisor told me it actually came from their sister nursery, so given conflicting information
It seems the company only allow positive reviews on their website because I reviewed the fuschias as one star and this has not been submitted to their site tried go contact them through Facebook, hoping to get an answer as their online chat is awful on their website, and they blocked me from contacting them or from posting on their wall. Have since disputed the transaction with my bank as they're clearly a scam company. Also contacted BBC watchdog. Never had such poor customer service from an online retailer. Would give zero stars if I could
DO NOT BUY FROM THIS COMPANY!! Still awaiting an order I placed 3 weeks ago. Cannot get in contact with them - no telephone number and no one replies to web chat or emails. Absolute waste of time, money and awful customer service. Just wish I had read the reviews before purchasing with them!

Be careful before you buy from here. There is no customer support number, no email support and only thing is through their chat service on their site. You need to wait hours before someone replies your queries. 15 days passed and still no sign of any delivery of my plant I ordered online. They keep on promising it will be sent, that's all. All lie, feel like being cheated. Don't waste your money. They claim to be very busy, God knows if that's true. Stay away.
I have just received my order from Gardening Express after almost 15 days of waiting, I have never felt more ripped off in my life, I have tried to contact them with no success. All the plants have arrived broken, the "Jumbo" sizes DO NOT EXIST, my Verena Hydrangea arrived with two sad branches, and the lavenders barely survived the delivery, the packaging was horrible, all the pots arrived broken.
No resemblance to the original site, 170 Pounds lost.... a total scam!!!!! THE FIRST AND LAST TIME I BUY ANYTHING FROM THIS SITE!!!!


A truly awful company. They move the goal posts regarding delivery times but don't keep you informed by email regarding your own order. There is no way to contact them by phone. They shut down chats after you sit there waiting for a reply for a few hours. I wish I had read these other reviews before placing an order. It never turned up and I had to do a section 75 claim via Visa to get my money back. Avoid at all cost.
What a dreadful company only delivered one rose out of three to start with spent hours on their chat line trying to find out where the other two were. Eventually arrived yesterday like two twigs with a few leaves on. Customer service is as bad as any company i have ever purchased from, no telephone or email contact. Wouldn’t touch this company with a barge pole in future
Poor Quality Plants, Non-Existent Customer Service & Worthless Guarantee

I find it illuminating that Gardening Express feels the need to bolster their reputation, and refute the very many ‘negative’ reviews offered here (and elsewhere) by customers dissatisfied with their plant quality and poor customer service.

In my experience, like that of many others who have taken the time to write of their experience, I found Gardening Express' offering best summed up as ‘Poor Quality Plants, Non-Existent Customer Service & Worthless Guarantee’.

To claim that their net promoter score suggests that mine and other reviews are motivated by anything other than customer dissatisfaction is revealing in itself.

Like others have said the plants I received today (only my second order with GE) arrived in
an extremely poor condition, diseased, dead (or dying). Described on their website as 'in bud or blooming' is flagrantly misleading and false.

The plants delivered can, in no way, be described as in bud and/or blooming.

Thy are simply dead, dying or possibly diseased.

To raise my concern via GE ‘chat’ function on their website resulted in a 20 minute wait and then as soon as I began ‘chatting and made clear my concerns’ the agent ended the chat… not just the once but twice.

My recommendation is twofold… firstly do not waste you time nor money with Gardening Express as their product is inferior and customer service is inadequate. Secondly, do let your gardening friends know about your poor experience. It is only through customer pressure (and dwindling revenues) that companies like Gardening Express can learn from their customers.

To justify the delays on Covid and blame the delays for the poor quality is unacceptable.

In summary: poor customer service, poor quality products and lack of accountability and responsibility… a worthless guarantee too!

The delivery was much longer than originally told. The 2 roses were almost dead and did die soon after planting, despite my using rootgrow and rose food. I have repeatedly tried to contact them sending photos. Online chat takes between 1 and 2 hours for a response and they cancel the chat almost immediately. I emailed sending photos, still no response 11 days later. I sincerely wish I had checked this company out before buying from them. I have now found HUNDREDS of negative reviews, every one of them describing the same problems I have encountered. The photos are lovely on their website, but bear no resemblance to the plants you will receive. Don't waste your money on this company. Spend a little more and buy from a reputable company. These people are scammers. AVOID like the plague!!!
I bought a fairly expensive magnolia tulip tree from Gardening Express. When I received it, I soaked overnight, planted in good compost and watered regularly. No growth, no sign of buds opening.
I contacted Gardening Express who advised that the tree was dormant when received since it had been in cold store.
I waited for several weeks for the tree to come into bud as advised, but nothing happened. Contacted gardening express again but was now told the tree was dead, and I couldn’t claim under the warranty as that had to be done within two weeks' receipt of the tree.
How am I expected to discern within 14 days that a bare root tree that is supposedly dormant is in fact dead? I gave the tree full TLC, planted it in good compost, checked it every day and watered regularly.
The warranty is valueless. I shall not be purchasing any more plants from Gardening Express.

Items turned up half dead and with about 2 years of moss/algae on top. Described as ‘Pair of Beautiful French Lavender Trees’ - strange business plan, I assume they don’t expect repeat business. Would never use again
Dishonest, deceitful, a total con! Their guarantee is worthless, they do not take phonecalls, they do not answer emails, they ignore complaints. They shouldn't be allowed to trade or steal our money.
I ordered a shrub from Gardening Express in Feb 2021, described by them as 'established and bushy'. That was a lie. I got a twig 7" tall with 3 spindly 'branches'. I complained immediately and was told to give it time, it would thrive come spring. It did not thrive, it languished and slowly died. I sent many emails with photos but they ignore them. Their website now states that, for a refund or replacement, they need the dead plant returned, in its original pot(!), with the original label and proof of purchase and at my expense. That is ludicrous and just means the guarantee is useless. I am currently waiting on their chat facility, have been for 22 minutes and the only thing I see is "currently replying in under 2 hours"! My advice is clear: YOU SHOULD NEVER BUY FROM THIS COMPANY.
Ordered 26th June 3-5 days dispatch was then told maybe 15 days or more. Only chat facility no phone number or email was told have 24hrs only from ordering to cancel and my order will be processed and dispatched it is then upto me to either refuse delivery and pay 25% or return at my expence within 14 days this you have to do by writing to them and then return in same condition as received which is inpractical order is still processing they are refusing to cancel before dispatch. Credit card provider is disputing transaction and hopfully refunding me.
Company is in breech of distance selling regulations and acting illegally.

Avoid! Avoid! Plants arrive half dead and I'm told just to water them as there is "no evidence of detrimental damage." The lavender plants were rotting in their pots when they arrived and the bamboo plants are beyond help. Lost all their leaves and have broken stems that make them far smaller than they should have been (they are literally 20cms high). I have waited 4 weeks for these products. There was no notification that there would be any wait. I am kicking myself for not reading the independent reviews before giving them my cash.

There is nothing 'express' about this company. I wish I went to B&Q or Morrisons - they seem to be able to do a better job of keeping plants alive!
I ordered a plant on the 4th May when it arrived it looked like it was dead, I e mailed and wrote sending photos and never recieved a reply, I would never order again from this company because they offer a 30 day refund but do not get back to you when you complain

I cant believe that I did not read the reviews here before ordering as this is the first place I usually come to before ordering from online companies.
Spent £130 and all I get is delays in shipping because they are so busy.
They state you can cancel the order before dispatch for a full refund, try it?.
Cannot contact as others impossible.
Will have to do a charge back when the 30 days are up and if I do get anything I am expecting the worst.
Do not buy anything from these con artists.

They state that you can cancel your order anytime before it goes to picking if you log into your account.
The thing is when you sign in there is no account to cancel your order just a link to change your profile.
I managed to send a message on their webchat stating I wanted to cancel the order as I had just had an email from them saying my order had been delayed.
Then low and behold I get an email the day after saying order despatched but no tracking info, that will follow, yeah right.
I go onto their website and low and behold I have an account to click on. And now because they have said it has despatched you cannot cancel.
This could be one of the worst companies I have ever dealt with.
I have a feeling I will be making a charge back if and when I ever see anything.

Just received the trees, I wish I could post photo's.
Nothing like the trees I ordered, I ordered weeping Japanese Acers, £120 plus posstage I would have walked past these on sale for a tenner.
Two skinny standard Acers with two skinny trunks on each.
Photo advert shows a thick trunk with a big thick bush of weeping branches that have been grafted to the trunk, these look like a couple of branches of a standard Acer that have taken root.
The only thing I was surprised with is they are alive.
I have to wait 30 days from order to start a cashback and I will out of pocket for delivery both ways.
The only thing they have not done is wear a mask, you have been warned.


Packaging very poor and plants beyond rescue. No way to complain so wasted money. Won't use again.

My wife paid the princely sum of £28.96p for a GIANT Hydrangea. A TINY plant upside down in a GIANT and damaged box arrived via Hermes. We rejected the delivery and then discovered that this so-called reputable company doesn't provide any phone numbers at all for customer support and your only hope of obtaining any kind of post-sale communication or a refund is by jumping through a covoluted myriad number of hoops.
We then read countless negative and jaw-dropping reviews on Google.
We also discovered that Gardening Express has also been the subject of the BBC's Watchdog programme.

DO NOT order from this company unless you want to waste time and money. I ordered the magnolia as a present for a friend, but it arrived looking like a sorry stick with three very small buds and equally small root ball. I decided to nurture it a little before giving it to my friend, as I have quite a few magnolias growing in my garden, so I have some experience. Gave the plant the best soil mixed with some organic compost and waited, watered and checked on it regularly. The buds never developed, and eventually simply dropped off, the rootball showed no signs of developing either, and the whole plant looked dead. Today I contacted Gardening Express. You can only do it by chat (no telephone number or email address is already a bad sign) and had to wait hours for a reply. Eventually an adviser told me the plant is covered by their 5 year guarantee, and I should send a photo of a bark test, which I did. Another adviser intervened to say that the plant is not covered by the guarantee, some plants just die and I should have returned it within 14 days if not fully satisfied. I am sure I would have then been told that you should give the plant a chance to develop. Having shopped in dozens of nurseries I have never encountered such appalling customer service. AVOID AT ALL COSTS. If I could give a negative score it would be minus 5.
