"Archer" is going to look a little different when the animated series returns for the fifth season on Jan. 13.
Not only has ISIS and the whole spy-espionage plot of the series been replaced , but even the way the show is being advertised online is new for a television series. Some of the main characters from "Archer" can now be seen in the nude on exhibitionist subreddit.
Don't worry, you don't have to log on to the work-questionable website to see the naked photos of Archer, and his fellow former spy co-stars. Just click through the (NSFW) album below and prepare for the "Vice" version of "Archer" when it premieres Jan. 13 at 10 p.m. on FX.

Up until this season, I was a massive fan of the show Archer , it was the show that I wished I could write. Even though a change of location and addition of a character are two red flags that a show is running out of ideas, I was blown away by season 5. Turning the show on its head was a bold move that could have gone very poorly if in the hands of less talented writers.
It’s actually how I feel about season 6 so far, too. Sub-par plots, but the writing remains excellent. I’ve been willing to overlook the addition of Slater (and I applaud the addition of Milton and hope that he becomes the new Brett), but things took a bad turn for me at the end of “Pocket Listing” and that scene. Every review I read talked about this scene (hopefully YouTube has not removed it due to content), but no one talks about the dialogue of the scene.
I found it incredibly sexist and fantastical. And yes, I’m a heterosexual white male (who is very attracted to black women).
The scene is also just poor for the show. It’s poor character development for Lana, who after five seasons of trying to strike repeated blows to Archer’s ego, is now and blowing him and his ego. The last part of Archer’s ego that needs any inflation is his ego about his own sexual abilities.
The whole “Will they, won’t they?” trope is played out, and I really expected the writers of Archer to be above it. That said, it’s possible that they are planning some elaborate story arc that will reveal why they had to stoop to this cliche, but I’m beginning to doubt it after s6e10, which focused on the “new” Archer and how in love he and Lana are.
However, my biggest problem with this scene is how it plays so directed at male fantasy. Yes, nearly all of Archer is male fantasy, but I think that this crossed the line. Being what’s generally considered the qualities of a bad ass, Archer fights, drinks, fucks, and does whatever he wants, whenever he wants. And that’s been fine, as it’s partially tongue in cheek, but also because he was (almost) never indulged by anyone else.
But now, the “ultimate” male fantasy comes to fruition, Lana- who has tried so hard to keep Archer in check, is now mesmerized by Archer’s dick, and she can never get enough of it. She even asks in the next episode if his dick got bigger.
Has Archer jumped the shark in male fantasy? Where can he go from here? Where does the show go from here?
For the first time since discovering Archer, I’m not sure I care to find out.

Whilst Archer is very much a male fantasy, it’s not as if there isn’t consideration for women either. Archer gets naked quiet a lot, and female viewers do appreciate that. That said, the scene stands out because, by and large, actual sex has never been shown in the show; the coitus always came in pre, post, or interruptus flavours. I think that was a conscious decision to finally, dramatically end the “will they, won’t they” threat and to mark a new phase in Lana and Archer’s relationship. The audience had seen practically every possible iteration of frisson and sexual misdemeanor in the show, so showing an actual sex scene was probably the only way to stand out.
Over all, I didn’t mind the scene. That it showed Lana in a somewhat different light than we are used to didn’t bother me (after all, why can’t a woman enjoy getting fucked?). I felt the switch in tone was necessary for the direction they want to go on, it’s just that we felt the abrupt gear change whilst it happened.

In Archer season 5 episode 9, Archer Vice: On the Carpet , Cheryl Tunt aka Cherlene spends virtually the entire episode wearing only daisy dukes, boots, and whipped cream.
It’s also worth noting that Christian Slater is a guest star in this episode, but honestly that part of the story is pretty forgettable compared to Cherlene lounging around nearly naked the whole time.
I’ve personally gone through the episode and made GIFs of every scene featuring Cherlene topless. For science!
