"April Fool — I don't believe anyone"

Today the whole world celebrates the Day of Laughter. Historians are still debating where this tradition came from. The most popular version is from France of the XVI century. King Charles IX postponed the New Year from April 1 to January 1, but not everyone wanted to change their habits. Those who continued to give gifts the old-fashioned way were teased as "April fools." There are other guesses — that the tradition appeared in Ancient Rome in honor of the god Rhesus (Risus in Latin — "laughter"), and then spread throughout Europe.

In Russia, April 1 began to be celebrated following the European example thanks to Peter I. There is a version that he learned about the holiday from Europeans in the German settlement, where he spent his youth. The first mass draw was staged in 1703: the audience was sold tickets to an "unheard–of performance", and a poster appeared on the stage: "The first of April - don't trust anyone." The show ended there.

Now April 1st is a joke all over the world. You can see exactly how in our cards.

Have you already fallen for someone's joke or managed to make fun of others?
