Apple Car Rumors

Majin Bu

In this article, I'm going to show you a part of conversation between me and my source who says he works for the Apple Car project. I have no way of verifying whether this information is real however I was keen to post what I was able to find out since I have been given permission to do so. Don't take what you read too seriously even though a lot of what he said seems plausible to me and might be true.

The conversation begins here…

Me: Tell me about Apple Car

Source: It's really strange even for being a full electric one, there's the gearbox which will be a hybrid... But the manual gears can only be changed from the ""dashboard"" with touch capability which will be totally on the screen and will integrate directly into the windscreen.

Basically, the windshield will be a huge screen where there will be functions and commands, obviously with the CarPlay system, and there won't be the classic dashboard that is also on Teslas... The only physical thing that will come out of the windshield will be the steering wheel with he too will have a screen, but flexible with atypical touch capabilities with sensory experience.

We are currently testing the practicality of inserting the iPhone directly inside the steering wheel to "connect it to the car"

Probably the iPhone will be the brain for the car, certainly an immersive CarPlay mode is expected once the device is integrated into the steering wheel.  Also because there is no computer on board, only the displays... Some secondary electronic accessories, the seats (these are also very strange) and the audio system.

Me: What about the design?

Source: It will be something like this in terms of Design, but much more defined in Apple style

The trim and frame will look like this. Especially on the door side

This concept has come a little closer but in the model we are testing the windshield goes all the way down to the nose which is more flattened

The conversation continues here, where I've started asking more questions

Me: Where is the laboratory where you are developing it?

Source: Cologne

Me: So the car will be Made in Germany?

Source: Yes, because the main companies we work with are German companies, but there will probably also be some Made in Italy

Me: So will there also be collaborations with car companies?

Source: Yes, absolutely, as well as with Bosch And NXP

Me: Will it still be designed by Apple in California?

Source: Yes, but this time with the support of the new department in Irvine

Me: Do you know anything about the prices?

Source: I can only say, much more than a Tesla Model 3.

If I'm not mistaken the base price of a Model 3 head is around $50k

Source: The great thing is that Apple has thought of a Car Sharing solution. Actually the Apple Car is mostly a utility fleet car.

Above all, a rental solution mostly.

Me: So what versions are expected?

Source: There is a 2-seater and a 4-seater version

Me: Will there be autopilot?

Source: Will the iPhone with Siri have to do it

Me: Are they already integrating this thing?

Source: It should already be in reality, perhaps with the next version of CarPlay even more so.

Service is iPhone as on-board computer, CarPlay as guidance system or HUI interface and Siri as assistant for the guide.

Obviously Apple Pay as Telepass and payment system, even tolls or parking.

Me: Like do you go to McDonald's and pay with the machine?

Source: That's right, thanks to UWB
Furthermore an iPad can also be used as a secondary screen.

Me: Why the project is called Titan?

Source: The project has the name of Titan because it refers to the use of the material in most of the components and elements of the machine. The reasons, however, may also be others that I don't know, the fact remains that CarPlay will still be the operating system, but as an extension of iOS. Practically an Android-style car mode.

Me: Do you know when it will be released?

Source: Since it is already at a good point I can only predict in a few years…

There are still problems to solve and the outer casing is still missing, that is the good part of the design and also some essential electronic parts

Me: Can you tell us what it's like to see it live?

Source: Strange. Far from a traditional car like the ones we are used to.

The conversation ends here, I limited myself to reporting a part of it as I said, I still hope I have been able to give you an idea.
