Anti-Taliban influencers in Afghanistan shut down their social media. Taliban troops feared revenge.
Reported by the BBC, Tuesday (28/9/2021), the act of erasing the track record of social media was carried out because they did not believe in the amnesty promise from the Taliban. What's more, the Taliban also admitted that there were acts of revenge killings carried out by their troops.
One of the influencers who closed his account was Fida who was in Kabul. He often criticized the policies and behavior of the Taliban, but he chose to delete all his social media accounts.
Fida also said his name was on the Taliban's firing list. Luckily, he is now granted asylum abroad.
"I'd rather die than live here now," he said.

Before the Taliban came to power, the Afghan government was said to have hired buzzers to support the government and criticize the Taliban.
This was denied by a young man who also criticized Afghanistan named Haris. He admitted that he spoke up for the sake of democracy.
"I support democracy, not President Ashraf Ghani," Haris said. He said he also criticized Ghani.
