Anthony Conrad Nesty (born November 25, 1967) is a former competition swimmer from Suriname who was an Olympic gold medallist in the 100-metre butterfly event in 1988.
Anthony Nesty became Surinam's first and currently only Olympic champion. Age group swimming was not easy for Anthony. Although highly competitive, he grew tired of the sport, but never gave in to doubts. Swimming through the burnout states at age 14, his father inspired and encouraged him to continue in the sport.
Anthony Nesty was born in 1967 in the capital city of Paramaribo, Suriname, a nation situated along the northern coast of South America. Suriname's population at the time was a vibrant mosaic of ethnic groups, including Hindustani, Javanese, Creole, Maroon, Chinese, and indigenous peoples, reflecting centuries of colonial influence and migration.

In 1988, Anthony Nesty became the first black swimmer to win an Olympic gold medal and was also the first Olympic medalist for Suriname. Nesty was not considered a butterfly favorite in Seoul, that being Matt Biondi, after the world's best butterflyer in the mid-1980s, Pablo Morales, shockingly failed to make the US team at the Olympic Trials.
