Actress Anne Reid feared taking her clothes off in front of Daniel Craig
A love affair with James Bond star Daniel Craig would be a dream come true for most women.
But actress Anne Reid, 79, who played Valerie Barlow in Coronation Street and more recently starred in hit drama Last Tango In Halifax, reveals that she was so terrified at the prospect of filming sex scenes with Craig that she got drunk and then burst into tears.
She tells BBC Radio 4’s Desert Island Discs today that she almost quit over her fears of taking her clothes off in front of Craig in 2003 film The Mother.
Anne, who was 68 at the time, says: ‘The night before I had a lot of drink on my own in the flat, and I stripped and I stood in front of a mirror and thought, “Tomorrow I am going to have to show this.”
'And I started to cry. I thought, “Oh my God, I can’t do this.” So I rang my son and I was weeping.
‘He said, “Look, Mum, if you are inhibited it’s not going to work – just go for it.” I managed to pull myself together but it was scary.’
Reid, whose song choices include Charles Trenet’s La Mer, says The Mother transformed her career and led to her winning a role in Last Tango In Halifax and the 2010 remake of Upstairs Downstairs.
