Like the galactic universe of Star Wars has some traps, our beloved anime world has its own.
Though I would say there is a vast difference in these traps.
I would describe a trap as a ruse, it’s basically a lure same as any other trap but in anime that lure happens to be in terms of certain characters.
Anime traps are characters that have the looks of a certain gender but are not of the aforementioned gender.
Basically, a guy that looks like a girl or vice-versa confuses the audience.
In this list, we are gonna go through some well-known traps in the world of anime…..
Let’s start getting out of these traps!
WARNING SPOILERS ALERT You have been warned
Titus Alexius was born just to take Scheherazade’s place as the storyteller of the 1001 Arabian Nights and the Magi of the Reim Empire. He was a clone of Scheherazade.
Titus Alexius is shy and proud when we first meet him because he has been so successful since birth and hasn’t done anything to earn his wealth.
He is proud and likes to talk about himself until he fights Aladdin.
After the fight, he suddenly changes his mind, and we find out that the people who gave him advice turned him into a snobby version of himself.
After spending the night in the hospital with Aladdin, Titus went back to being kind and happy.
Aura is the first girl on our list who acts like a boy. She is bossy and sometimes takes over when she is around her older brother.
She has a strong personality that makes her the boss of everyone she meets.
She is a non-playable character in Nazarick who is completely loyal to Ainz. Unlike everyone else, she notices all the creepy things Ainz does as Overlord .
She loves to collect different kinds of animals from all over the land of Nazarick.
Shalltear is another person who has a hold on Aura. From the things they do together, it seems like they are rivals and would kill each other if they had to.
However, at the end of the day, they both care a lot about each other and sometimes act like real sisters.
Tetra is a cleric idol in the world of Log Horizon. She is the first idol on this list. Since she is a man in the real world, she was stuck in the world of Theldesia when the big disaster happened.
Many Log Horizon characters, like Akatsuki, play the other gender even though they are the other gender in real life. Most of them are unhappy with the way things are mixed up, but not Tetra.
Tetra likes to be a cute girl as her avatar, and she makes fun of the men at her party, especially Naotsugu, who likes strong women. She has a fun personality that gives her a lot of depth.
The first bad guy on this list, and one that everyone knows. In Dragon Ball Z, Frieza is feared by everyone because he is the Supreme King of Universe 7. Even after he died, people still feared how strong he was.
Frieza is one of Araki’s favorite bad guys. He has said this many times in interviews, and the care and respect that this character gets in the galaxy are on par with what people feel for Beerus , the God of Destruction .
Frieza was the first big bad guy in Dragon Ball Z , but if you look at the Dragon Ball Super anime or manga, he shows up all the time, sometimes as a bad guy and sometimes as a supporting character.
Pico is a young boy that dresses up like a girl in the dresses that Tomatsu, one of the main in the anime gives him.
He has blonde hair and certain feminine features which make him look like a young girl.
The anime is obviously very audience-specific, mainly directed towards the male audience who like the shotacon genre.
Am I the only one who thinks he isn’t a trap! When I first saw Kurapika, he did not come off as a girl.
Though according to public opinion he is a trap. His short blonde hair and big eyes make him more feminine and his voice adds to this by making it more convincing.
Kurapika has beautiful brown eyes which turn bright scarlet in color when experiencing intense emotions as a virtue of his ancestry.
He belongs to the Kurta clan who are famous for their scarlet eyes.
“You’re Under Arrest” is a police-comedy genre anime in which Aoi is a policeman, with emphasis on the “man” in policeman.
He looks very much like a sexy policewoman who you would be glad to get arrested by but, it’s a trap.
He is usually seen wearing the police uniform. He has big green eyes and delicate eyelashes and a womanish figure. I was convinced completely that this guy is a policewoman.
Hayate is a young 15-year-old short boy who is the main protagonist of the show. I have fallen for this trap and speaking from personal experience this one gets everybody!
His short blue hair looks very cute with his matching blue eyes.
There are more than a few features about him that are very feminine, his short hair , voice, and cute big eyes. Also, the fact that he dressed up as a maid!
This trap is kinda convoluted. It is actually not revealed till the second chapter of the manga that the very feminine-looking, high school girl vibing Chihiro is in fact a dude.
He has very short brown hair and big yellow eyes. He has those slender hands with long fingers and a very feminine body that set the lure of the trap.
And on top of these obvious lures, he wears a girl’s winter school uniform !
Kaoru is a florist in the market district called Usagiyama from the anime Tamako Market.
He has very womanly blonde and puffy hair that reaches his waist. He wears a cute pink apron with a yellow flower imprinted on it over a white shirt and blue jeans with red boots.
He definitely looks womanly in that outfit with the hair and the green eyes.
Ana is one of the main characters of the mystery-game shounen , Phi Brain. He has long light brown hair with green eyes.
He has many feminine features like long lush hair, big green eyes, and most convincing of all, his voice.
It is later revealed that he is actually a boy and just dresses up like a girl and even wins a cross-dressing competition without even participating.
Rui, also known as LOAD in the Galax community, is one of the main characters in the show.
The concept of the anime is really interesting and it’s definitely a good watch but now getting to the topic at hand, Rui is a cross-dresser and disguises himself, very well I would say as a girl.
He has bright blue eyes and slender arms and fingers that make him a believable woman.
Fruits Basket is a slice-of-life anime that’s sure to make you cry. I can give you a written guarantee that it will make you tear up and cry but you will definitely feel like watching more and more of it.
Ritsu is a young adult who dresses up in a kimono as a woman because he feels more comfortable in a woman’s clothing.
He has long silky brown hair and big light brown eyes. He definitely had me confused.
Aoi is a supporting character in the comedy-drama shoujo , Kaicho wa Maid-Sama!
The anime is super funny. Aoi is a young boy who likes dressing up as a girl, he loves fangirling over “kawaii”.
Aoi has long blonde hair which he usually ties up in twin tails with drills when he wears his maid uniform . He has blue eyes that make you even more convinced that he is a girl.
Hasuta is one of the main characters in the sci-fi and comedy anime , Haiyore Nyaruko-san! He is classmates with the main character Nyaruko-san.
He has long blonde hair that he ties up in a long braid and radiant blue eyes with a slender body figure that gives a feminine look.
Gasper is a young boy who loves to crossdress. He looks about 14 or 15 years old physically. He has a short stature and a petite body.
His blonde short and straight blonde hair and big pink eyes make him look more feminine while he’s cross-dressing. He wears the girl’s school uniform with thigh-high black stockings.
Kazuto, or as he is known in the Sword Art Online world as Kirito is the protagonist of the series.
Kazuto in the Gun Gale Online world has long black hair and a very cute little face.
His avatar is very feminine, with a long black coat over a white blouse with black warrior pants.
In other words, he is just a normal character with a male avatar.
Next up we have, Souta Takanashi one of the main characters on the show.
While he is not crossdressed he has short brown hair and wears a pair of glasses and his waiter uniform.
While in his cross-dressing persona, he has long and straight brown hair and light golden eyes.
He wears a similar uniform but this time only with an off-white apron on top of the uniform.
Kuranosuke is the main protagonist from Kuragehime( Princess Jellyfish) who disguises himself under the name of “Kurako” and loves to crossdress.
While he is disguised as Kurako, he has long and wavy pink hair and big grey eyes. He wears a high collared white top and purple legging and black high boots.
In the ecchi-comedy “MM!,” Taro is the protagonist in a school setting. Taro himself has short bluish-black hair and purple eyes.
He is a true m*sochist and loves it when he gets stepped on by the girls around him.
When dressed as a trap he wears a white schoolgirl uniform and has long and straight purple hair and big cute purple eyes.
He wears a pink ribbon in his hair and a short red striped blue skirt that makes his cross-dressing even more convincing.
Hato is a young boy with a knack for crossdressing and one of the main characters in the anime.
He attends school while dressed as a boy but he crossdresses as a girl for the Genshiken meetings.
While crossdressed, he has long brown hair with bangs and big light brown eyes. He dresses up in a floral blouse with a blue jacket on top of the blouse.
Honjo is one of the supporting characters in the samurai-shounen, Rurouni Kenshin .
He is a crossdresser, that takes pride in his womanly status and fashion sense.
He has short brown hair and big cute brown eyes. He wears a long green kimono with yellow and purple on it.
He has a very feminine voice and his personality is very flirtatious and upbeat.
Haku appears in the series Naruto as a supporting character who is a ninja from the Kirigakure.
He is shown to be a sub-ordinate of Zabuza, the assassin from Kirigakure.
He has long black hair and bright brown eyes. He has very fair skin and a slender womanly figure.
I think all Naruto fans were confused by this spin.
Next up we have, Fisheye from one of the most popular anime titles, Sailor Moon .
Fisheye is definitely a dude but when you look at his face it looks more feminine than some of the women out there.
He has a cute little face with the body of a petite male. He has bright blue-colored hair with blue eyes. These feminine features definitely give him a confusing spin.
All hail the renowned crossdressing idol, Tsukimiya. While dressed up as a girl, he looks so damn womanly that you will not believe anyone who said that he is a crossdresser.
He has long and wavy pink hair while dressed as a woman and a cute yellow turtle neck with long sleeves and black leggings.
Hime is the protagonist of Himegoto, an ecchi-comedy anime.
Hime is a young man who dresses up as a girl so that he can pay off some debt.
He has bright pink colored hair, which he ties in twin tails, and the rest flows down to his waist, and blue eyes.
He is very slender, which makes him look even more like a young girl.
Hideyoshi is famous for his gender neutrality in the anime Baka and Test: Summon the Beasts.
He is one of the popular kids in the Fumizuki Academy.
He has the same looks as his twin sister except for the hair.
His hair is short and brown in color. He has side bangs that border his little face.
He is a member of the Drama school and has amazing acting skills.
Oregairu is such a well-written romantic comedy in the school setting. It has amazing characters and in those characters is an outstanding trap.
Saika looks and acts so much like a young girl, if you don’t know the truth there is no way you’re doubting him.
Saika loves sports and has a great personality as a leader.
He is the head of the Tennis Club. His short and cute grey hair and curly eyelashes give him feminine vibes.
Next up is Mariya, one of the protagonists of the titular series Maria Holic.
He has such silky blonde hair when dressed up as a girl, you wouldn’t doubt it one bit that he is actually a dude.
He wears a uniform with a red ribbon tied as a bow tie on his collar.
He has bright blonde hair with bangs covering his forehead and twin tails from the side of his face and the rest is left to flow freely up to his waist.
Ruka is such a convincing trap. His short and cute brown hair and the cute little face make it hard to believe when you realize, “it’s a trap!”.
He has big purple eyes and pins up his short hair with a cute safety pin with a skull-face head. He has a very slim and lanky body adding to his other feminine features.

Faceoff » Lists » 80 Anime Traps That Shocked Everyone!
Anime traps are older than anime itself. In Japan’s traditional theatrical play, Kabuki, the actors were all men who played female roles. Those who adopt a culturally feminine gender expression, mainly through cross-dressing, are known as Otokonoko no Musume (’男の娘’), meaning “male-girl”
A “Trap” is a common characteristic term used in anime. It generally refers to male characters who behave and dress up as females. They cross-dress and generally have a feminine appearance. The viewers grow to like an anime girl, and then it turns out they grew fond of a guy and vice versa.
The real gender and social issues of a male with a traditionally feminine appearance are never addressed in a serious matter. Now that you know the basic meaning of traps in anime, young padawan, it is time to explore the list of the greatest 80 mind-blowing traps in anime history. All hail the trap gods!
“I never really paid attention to the pronouns he was referred to and just assumed he was a girl but then finding out he was a guy blew my mind.” (Fan comment) Astolfo is a member of the Twelve Paladins of Charlemagne , a group of knights similar to the Knights of the Round Table of King Arthur .
He has the looks of a teenage anime girl with long pink hair. Astolfo’s fan art always portrays him as very feminine and ridiculously attractive. His popularity soared thanks to his attributed fabulous memes. Astolfo occasionally likes to mess with people by playing up his gender ambiguity. He refers to himself as “Boku”, which is used to describe both male and female shy/meek characters.
He hasn’t denied being called male. And it’s the same when referred to as female. Astolfo doesn’t have any interest in gender identity, so the reason he loves to cross-dress is that he’s into cute stuff. He’s a male simply because he was born that way. It’s safe to say that Astolfo is pretty much the mother (and father) of all traps.
“Everyone always treats me like a girl” gee, I wonder why… She’s not a boy, Megumu is gender on its own, just like Kinoshita Hideyoshi. His trap is pretty funny because the only reason it happened was an accident by calling his friend calling him a guy.
This is the second Trap that Kana Hanazawa has voiced for the Kanojo ga Flag w Oraretara series. She voices the dark Hoshino in Nanana’s Buried Treasure , as well Megumu in this anime.
A long, light-brown hair-trained assassin man. Lin wears women’s clothing so he can feel closer to his sister Qiaomei, from whom he has been separated for nine years. He also enjoys wearing makeup.
Lin doesn’t care for social norms and gender stereotypes. He doesn’t understand what is wrong with men wearing skirts when women can wear pants.
He is quite vain and can’t get enough of how beautiful he is. Still, when an LGBT crossdressing character sees Lin and asks if he wants to be introduced to some adult sites. He doesn’t.
The youngest son of the famous family of assassins in the Hunter X Hunter universe. His looks may be deceiving. He hardly speaks and wears the traditional Japanese dress Furisode which further mystifies his trap.
Kalluto is a young kid, and he’s pretty androgynous. Combine that with him wearing more feminine attire, and it would be easy for someone to fall for the trap.
In the anime, Kalluto is called “Kalluto-Chan”. Chan is a Japanese honorific used for cute anime girls and boys. It might suggest his gender is ambiguous. But he’s consistently referred to as male by other characters who actually know him.
Another super popular trap is Akira, from the dark anime series Kemono Jihen . He grew up completely isolated from the rest of the world. Everyone in his village looks the same, but he looks nothing like the villagers, anx finally, he escapes to Tokyo.
Akira just thinks of himself as being cute, and he likes cute stuff, nothing to do with gender. He considers dresses girly and refuses to wear them. Akira also makes multiple comments throughout the anime series that suggests he doesn’t care about gender stereotype.
Akira being an anime trap is huge because even though he’s feminine none of the other male characters tease him for it, nor does the mangaka treat him as a joke like a majority do.
Naruto’s artist, Masashi Kishimoto, made Haku into a trap. His genetic art design dictates a feminine appearance, and his character is voiced by a female voice artist. Masashi openly did it as a trap trope parody. So no wonder Naruto is in shock when he learns that Haku is actually a boy.
Some fans speculate that Kishimoto wanted Haku to seem pure, and traditional female qualities are sometimes associated with pureness.
Haku has a very beautiful, feminine appearance and likes to cross-dress in male clothing.
Hidari is into cute clothing. He’s referring to himself as “boku
