The fascinating part of Angela Bofill's 1978 debut album, Angie, is that it exemplifies an era where wildly eclectic and gorgeously lush flavors of music didn't have to be categorized or marketed to a certain audience to be appreciated. It was somehow positioned at the right time and place. right in the midst of the disco movement. And above all, it was a beautiful smorgasbord of jazz, smooth soul, and pop that was anchored by such a thoughtful and mature-beyond-her-years vocal stylist, who could touch every fiber of your emotions and leave you breathless, even after a song's conclusion. Not many, if any, are blessed with that gift and instinct today.
