Born to Be a Star! Angelina Jolie’s Complete Transformation Over the Years: Photos

As the only daughter of late starlet Marcheline Bertrand and actor Jon Voight , fame was pretty much Angelina Jolie ‘s destiny. In fact, the Los Angeles native began working in the film industry at just 7 years old.
In 1982, Angelina played Tosh Warner alongside her father in the movie Lookin’ to Get Out . While it would be about a decade before she became a household name, it was clear from the start she belonged in Hollywood.
Beyond Angelina’s career, her love life has been making headlines for years, most notably her split from Brad Pitt in 2014. The A-list couple was together for 12 years and share six children , Maddox, Pax, Zahara, Shiloh , and twins Vivienne and Knox.
Despite their rocky divorce, Angelina has learned to persevere through the transition. “The past few years have been pretty hard,” she told British Vogue in February 2021. “I’ve been focusing on healing our family. It’s slowly coming back, like the ice melting and the blood returning to my body.”
Angelina went on to say that she “hopes” to find peace in the aftermath of her marriage ending, as well as entering her late forties. “I’m planning on it. I do like being older,” the Notes from My Travels author explained. “I feel much more comfortable in my forties than I did when I was younger. Maybe because … I don’t know … maybe because my mom didn’t live very long, so there’s something about age that feels like a victory instead of a sadness for me.”
Angelina’s interview with Vogue was conducted at her stunning California estate, once owned by director Cecil B. DeMille. “I wanted it to be close to their dad, who is only five minutes away,” the Unbroken director said. “I love most that there is no entertainment room, but lots of pathways and places to walk and think. I feel very fortunate we have that at this time.”
Ultimately, Angelina enjoys spending time outside of the spotlight with her children. “We were on the trampoline the other day, and the children said, ‘No, Mom, don’t do that. You’ll hurt yourself.’ And I thought, ‘God, isn’t that funny?'” she recalled. “There was a day I was an action star, and now the kids are telling me to get off the trampoline because I’ll hurt myself. I love that.”

It’s not hard to see why Angelina became a star.
By the mid-’90s, Angelina had nearly 10 acting credits under her belt.

1997 was a banner year for Angelina. At 21 years old, she snagged four separate roles.
1998 was the year Angelina starred as model Gia Carangi in the TV movie Gia.
Angelina’s role in Gia was so powerful that she took home the 1999 Golden Globe for Best Performance by an Actress in A Miniseries or Motion Picture Made for Television.
Two major things to note about Angelina’s life in 2000: The first, is that she won yet another Golden Globe for her role as Lisa Rowe in Girl, Interrupted . The second, is that she married fellow actor Billy Bob Thornton .

In 2001, she played Lara Croft in Tomb Raider , as well as important parts in Gone in 60 Seconds and Original Sin .
In 2002, Angelina and Billy Bob called it quits after three years together. Angelina also adopted her first son, Maddox, from an orphanage in Cambodia that year.
Following her divorce, Angelina went on to star in the second Tomb Raider film, Lara Croft Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life .
2004 was another big year for Angie. She landed four major film roles, including some voiceover work in Shark Tale .
Angelina played alongside Brad Pitt in the film Mr. & Mrs. Smith in 2005 and thus, their Hollywood love affair began. At the time, Brad was married to Jennifer Aniston . However, they officially called it quits four months after Brad and Angelina’s film hit theaters.
In 2005, Angelina also adopted her second child, a daughter named Zahara Marley from Ethiopia.
Brad and Angelina quickly became one of the most adored couples in the world. The pair welcomed the birth of their first biological child together, Shiloh Nouvel, on May 27, 2006.
Shortly after giving birth to Shiloh, Angelina adopted Pax Thien from Vietnam. Then, in 2008, she and Brad announced to the world that they were expecting twins. She later gave birth to a son, Knox Léon, and a daughter, Vivienne Marcheline on July 12.
Even as a mother of six, Angelina continued to be a heavy hitter in the movie business. Between 2010 and 2011, she landed eight roles.
Between 2011 and 2012, Angelina’s career in Hollywood took a bit of a dip. That said, she was still very much focusing on her humanitarian work. In 2012, she worked as a Special Envoy to the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees.
2013 continued to be an incredible year for Jolie’s humanitarian efforts.
In 2014, Angelina landed the starring role of Maleficent in the hit Disney movie of the same name. Plus, after 12 years together, she and Brad finally tied the knot in August.
After only two official years of marriage, Angelina and Brad were going their separate ways.
The Jolie-Pitt kids were always incredibly well taken care of and Angelina managed to stay active in all areas of her life — movies, activist work or otherwise.

Angelina and Brad are both legally single now. However, they are still working on a custody agreement.
In 2019, Angelina had a major comeback after starring in Maleficent: Mistress of Evil in October.
She’s not a regular mom, she’s a cool mom!
She continues to be a voice for those in need.
