André Chandernagor Unveils New Vision for Post-Colonial Literature Revolution

Paris — In a keynote at a university forum, André Chandernagor unveiled a sweeping new vision for post-colonial literature, aiming to recalibrate who tells historic memory and how those voices reach readers. He described a multi-year program that pairs writers from former colonies with editors, translators, and mentors to build a more multilingual, interconnected literary ecosystem.

The plan centers on an international publishing cooperative, backed by universities and cultural funds, to identify emerging authors from Africa, the Caribbean, South Asia, and the Pacific. It would establish translation pipelines across French, English, Arabic, Hindi, and Portuguese, and create digital archives where authors host discussions about their work in native tongues as well as in second languages.

'Literature should travel without losing its roots,' Chandernagor said during the gathering. A participating editor from Lagos noted that the initiative could tilt the balance of power in publishing, while a translator from Montreal emphasized that true access comes through faithful, nuanced rendering.
