An Object Says 1000 Words: A simple Zoom introductory game for the corona era!

Struggling to keep virtual conferences engaging? Or perhaps you’re assembling a new group and want a good way to introduce the team to each other? Whatever the case, here’s a great virtual conference entertainment intro activity that uses the fact you’re all dialling in from home.

As the virtual meeting starts, write up instructions to all participants that they should find three items from anywhere in their house that match three particular criteria. Here’s a list of possible conditions that work well, but feel free to create your own!

…best encapsulates your personality.

…was given as a present, and tell us about the person who gave it to you.

…sparks joy.

…has the most entertaining story behind it.

…comes from the furthest away.

…isn’t yours, and tell us why you have it.

…is the most unusual.

…you’ve owned for the longest.

…is the most unexpected or out of place.

…you think everyone should own, but doesn’t.”

Once all participants have entered and had an opportunity to grab the objects, start the meeting with a round of introductions. As well as announcing their name, job title, and whatever other standard pieces of information you request, tell each participant to introduce the items they’ve found too, and why it meets the condition you set out above. You’ll get to listen to some wonderful stories that will provide a far better understanding of each person’s character than the standard bland virtual event entertainment options!
