American Pharoah Makes History as First Triple Crown Winner in 37 Years

Lexington, KY — June 6, 2015 — In a breathtaking display of speed and endurance, American Pharoah galloped into the record books today, becoming the first horse in 37 years to win the coveted Triple Crown. The 3-year-old colt, trained by Bob Baffert and ridden by jockey Victor Espinoza, sealed his legendary status with a dominant victory at the Belmont Stakes, completing the elusive trifecta of the Kentucky Derby, Preakness Stakes, and Belmont Stakes.

The last horse to achieve this feat was Affirmed in 1978, making American Pharoah’s triumph a historic moment for horse racing. The chestnut colt surged ahead in the final stretch, leaving competitors in his dust and crossing the finish line 5½ lengths ahead of Frosted.

'He’s just a magnificent animal,' an emotional Baffert said after the race. 'To finally have a horse that could do it after all these years—it’s unbelievable.'

Fans at Belmont Park erupted in cheers as American Pharoah’s owners, Ahmed Zayat and his family, celebrated the long-awaited victory. The win not only cements the colt’s place in racing history but also revitalizes interest in the sport.
