Indian officials decided not to recover Chau’s body due to the extreme risks involved. The case has reignited discussions on how to better protect isolated tribes from outside interference while respecting their right to remain undisturbed.

Chau’s family expressed grief but acknowledged his passion for missionary work, stating, 'He loved God, life, and those who didn’t know Him. We forgive those responsible for his death.'
