And a mom's paradise! We didn't go to the cafe( my daughter is the pickiest kid in the world)we did get to the store around 9:30am to visit the salon. Get there early, by 10am the place was getting very busy! We only had to wait a little bit for her doll to get a beautiful hairstyle, we did get a spa package, where they scrubbed her skin, and gave us tips on caring for her. We left with. Sticker face mask, cucumber stickers for her eyes, and nail polish stickers for her toes! We will defiantly be back!!

Traveling with a 7 year old girl, this was sheer heaven. We brought 4 dolls with us, two had to stay at the doll hospital and will be returned to us in a few weeks, one just needed her hair re-braided and the 4th had lunch with us at their cafe. The food is OK, nothing special, but the magic is how your little girl feels when her doll is seated next to her in a special chair and served tiny dishes. It was a wonderful experience, never to be forgotten!

Took my daughter to American Girl. First, the customer service is amazing! We had Kaya's horse & the tail was falling out. The Doll Hospital replaced it...no questions. I was speechless. Then, we had a few things to get. Tracy, a personal shopper, showed up and help us with our things. I will call her directly now when we need anything else.

We have been to the AG Stores at MOA and NY and find them both to be more fun. This one just seemed like a regular store. That being said they do have everything you would want to buy for your AG loving kids.

Before I review the cafe/store I want to share our experience with parking at Water Tower Place (The building that American Girl is located in). We parked inside Water Tower place and after making our purchases we went to the concierge at American Girl to get our parking validated so that we could pay a discounted rate. We were advised from the concierge that the only place you can park and receive validation is in the parking garage ACROSS THE STREET in the Topshop building. Water Tower place does not allow American Girl to validate parking in the garage in which the store is located in. Needless to say we were upset about that, we ended up having to pay $37 and we were only there for around 2 hours! Please do yourself a favor before you drive and park here and give them a call to verify the exact location for the discounted parking!! Ok. Now onto my review of the cafe and store..

We were driving to Chicago and we knew we would be late due to traffic and so I called the toll free number and spoke to the nicest women who said they would hold our reservations for 15 minutes past the scheduled lunch time, we ended up arriving with 2 minutes to spare. We were seated quickly to the cutest table inside the most adorable dining room I've ever been in. Our server was very funny and professional. The girls were given high chairs for their dolls and little cups/saucers. It's really a fun place to take little girls and to my surprise the food was actually pretty good too. Once we finished eating we did some shopping. Be prepared for fork over a lot of cash here! It's so expensive! We let our girls pick out 2 things each (they already had dolls) and it came to around $150.00....for 4 things!! The best experience with making our purchases came when we were trying to locate a cash register, we noticed one that had a HUGE line and we were trying to find another one open but there wasn't one. That's when we came upon Ingrid, she asked if we needed help and I explained we were looking for the cashier. That's when she said "come with me, I will check you out". She took us to a private lounge area and checked us out herself. It turns out she was one of the personal shoppers that you can get. She was very professional and so helpful. If you go here looking for a personal shopper you need to ask for her! She gave me her business card and said if I ever need help placing and order when I am back home to contact her. However the amount we paid shopping and eating here was worth the awesome service we received and it created wonderful memories for our girls! My biggest gripe is the parking issue! If you have little girls who love their American Girl Dolls, you have to take them here. Not only can you eat and shop but you can also see retired dolls on display.

I went with my daughter and my 5 year old granddaughter my daughters mother in law , sister in law and her little girl to celebrate my granddaughters 5th birthday. My daughter had arranged for a luncheon and a personal shopper. The lunch experience was well worth it. We met Ana the personal shopper, she was wonderful!! She shopped with us took us to a private lounge and helped us sort out through all the things that my granddaughter had picked out, she stayed with us through the photo shoot and hair appointment. I have to recommend getting a personnel shopper and make sure you ask for Ana she was wonderful. The whole experience was excellent!!! I enjoyed every minute.

Ella, Julie, Kit and Tess enjoy a fancy tea party.
She was an American Girl. In need of accessories.
So helpful girls, such as our daughters, somehow convince their parents to take them to an American Girl store. We spent a fair chunk of one vacation day last week in the one at Mall of America, just steps from an indoor amusement park, no less. I'm still seeing pink.
If you're unfamiliar with American Girl, it's a line of very nice, but very pricey, dolls. Some have elaborate historic back stories, told in books sold in the one part of the store where there are no children.
Some dolls are meant to resemble your child, so you can purchase matching doll-child outfits. For my girls, it's a plastic paradise they've long yearned to visit.
My mother loved grandchildren and dolls, and also Christmas and mail order, so my kids have an embarrassment of American Girl dolls. They were allowed to take one each to the Minnesota mothership. Why? To have their hair done, of course. I never treated G.I. Joe or Luke Skywalker nearly this well.
Ella brought โ€œJulie,โ€ a super 1970s girl and budding feminist. She got her when she was very young, so young that Ella used an orange highlighter pen to lovingly tattoo Julie's face. On the doll's forehead are the initials 'bff," except the b is backwards.
We asked a professional doll stylist if anything could be done.
โ€œWe could send her away for a new head,โ€ we were told.
โ€œBut she'd be a totally different doll,โ€ Ella cried, swiftly vetoing that plan. So Julie keeps her tattooed head.
Tess brought โ€œKit,โ€ a spunky, resourceful gal with plenty of 1930s Great Depression-era Moxie.
If anyone who lived through the Depression walks into this store, I hope they have pink defibrillator paddles on hand. Kit's tiny โ€œhomemadeโ€ orange crate scooter runs $32. Want to play 1934 wash day with Kit? The laundry set is $80. This is not the best setting for a lesson on the sacrifices that must be made amid hard times.
Kit's newspaper reporter set is $28. But no doll of no child of mine is going into journalism, speaking of hard times.
Julie's line of accessories is the most insidious. This sweet little $100 banana-seat bike, record player and tennis shoe roller skates are exactly how today's mothers of a certain age were accessorized back when they were little Julies. Resistance is futile.
Yes, I understand that G.I. Joe also had many, many accessories. But they were all necessary for combat and rescues and stuff. He never needed a plastic allergy free school lunch.ย
We did manage to resist, for the most part. Each doll got a new outfit. Julie and Kit also went to the bistro for tea.
In one of American's pinkest restaurants, we ate cucumber finger sandwiches and turkey bites cut into stars, tiny muffins, flower-shaped melon slices and cupcakes with, you guessed it, pink frosting. Pinkies out, Daddy.
I was glad when it was time to go. But then I remembered that Tess is starting middle school in a few weeks. Her doll days are fading fast. I actually got a little verklempt. Luckily, I was in the books section, so no one noticed.
