TITLE: American Corner Director
POSITION LOCATION: Namangan, Uzbekistan
EMPLOYMENT STATUS: Full Time (40 hours/week)
Summary of Position: The American Corner Director manages the daily operations, logistics, and programming of the American Corner Namangan (ACN). The Director supports students and community members in accessing resources, coordinates events and workshops with the EducationUSA Adviser, and maintains strong relationships with local and international partners. This position works closely with the U.S. Embassy’s Public Diplomacy Section (PDS), American Councils staff, and representatives of U.S. higher education. The Director reports to the American Corners Program Officer and collaborates with the American Spaces Program Specialist. The role includes staff and program management, event planning, and visitor support, as well as participation in professional training opportunities. The Director may also represent American Spaces in Uzbekistan at national and international conferences.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Manage the daily operations of the Corner, including library and computer resources.
- Oversee local programming (workshops, clubs, study groups, cultural activities, etc.) in coordination with the EducationUSA Adviser.
- Support U.S. government–funded programs (e.g., Fulbright, ELF/ETAs).
- Maintain a safe, welcoming, and professional environment for all visitors.
- Coordinate with American Councils and the U.S. Embassy on programs and initiatives.
- Build positive relationships with the host institution, local education authorities, and universities.
- Advise visitors on U.S. educational opportunities in collaboration with the EducationUSA Adviser.
- Prepare monthly and quarterly activity calendars and reports for American Councils and the U.S. Embassy.
- Track and submit statistics, event summaries, and alumni updates.
- Communicate schedule changes, operating hours, and staff leave to supervisors.
- Prepare budget requests, expense reports with supporting documentation.
- Coordinate utility costs with the host institution.
- Track and approve staff timesheets, leave, and other HR matters.
- Provide orientation and training for new staff.
Qualifications:
- Undergraduate degree required (Master’s degree preferred) in Education, Communications, or a related field.
- Knowledge of the U.S. higher education system (study or work experience in the U.S. a plus).
- 3 years of experience in program or office administration.
- Experience in event planning, public outreach, and promotion (social media skills desirable).
- Strong communication skills in English and Uzbek
- Excellent organizational ability and attention to detail.
- Effective interpersonal and cross-cultural communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Willingness to work evenings and weekends as needed.
- Willingness to travel domestically and internationally.
