"A must-have collector's item for readers eager for a glimpse into the unique world of a fearless chanteuse. A thoroughly enjoyable hybrid of flashy pictorial, artsy production, and outspoken autobiography."

—Kirkus

"A fixture of the party scene, Amanda Lepore has crafted a visually lush autobiography that’s light on clothes, heavy on humor."  —New York magazine
One of the most famous transsexuals and an effervescent fixture on the New York scene, Amanda Lepore has been at the cutting edge of culture since the Club Kid era, breaking and remaking the rules for music, marketing, and gender. Her constantly changing face has been used to promote Heatherette, M.A.C., Swatch, Smart Car, Perrier, Pop Water, and Sergio K, among many others. Lepore has worked with some the most renowned photographers and creatives in the world, including Terry Richardson and Pierre et Gilles.

A few days ago, I was reading the Daily Mail site and there was an article about the "Club Kids", a circle of people who were big on the club scene of New York in the late 80's and early 90's. The movement was ultimately overshadowed when one of its leading members, Michael Alig, was involved in a gruesome murder. That story is probably best known through the movie Party Monster but I read of it in the book Clubland, by Frank Owen. Amanda Lepore seemed like a colorful character in the Mail article and it mentioned she had just written a memoir. Doll Parts is indeed an interesting book about Lepore. It starts with her realizing she was born in the wrong body (and this before transgender rights became a fashionable cause). She was both born and married into bad family situations. She had gender reassignment and extensive plastic surgery. There is a harrowing tale about how she narrowly missed being the victim of a serial killer. She tells of the club scene and has an intriguing comment about Alig. "Michael Alig could have been the next Andy Warhol. He was bright, creative, and he had something to prove. If only he hadn't become a drug addict and murdered and dismembered someone..." Eventually, she found fame as a model and celebrity. Lepore and co-author Thomas Flannery tell a lively tale and the book is illustrated with great photographs. Amanda Lepore comes across as a transgender American success story.
This is an amazing tale told by a one of a kind Glamazon. Amanda's story may bot have always been happy or easy but it is distinctly hers. I've admired her from afar in NY clubs and marveled at her beauty and poise. I'm not trans but I can only imagine such a book would be an inspiration and reassurance to all those girls out there struggling. Part autobiography and part coffee table book, Lepore captures a unique person living her life with striking authenticity. Highly recommend.
THIS HARDBACK "COFFEE TABLE" BOOK IS AMAZING! OMG! AFTER MEETING HER AND SEEING THAT SHE IS REAL THAN MOST PEOPLE ON THE EARTH, I HAD TO HAVE THIS BOOK! IT'S A BREAKTHROUGH IN LITERATURE AND POP CULTURE AND ART AND.........THIS BOOK IS FOR EVERYONE! EVERY SINGLE PERSON SHOULD GET THEIR HEAD OUT OF THEIR OWN &* AND BUT THIS BEAUTIFUL WORK OF ART! IT'S ONLY $21.00!!!??? I LOVE THE LINING OF THE BOOK AND THE LAYOUT AND HER STORY IS LIKE NONE OTHER! IT WILL BE A MOVIE FOR SURE! I LOVE YOU AMANDA LEPORE! BECAUSE YOU LOVE YOURSELF AND YOU LOVE EVERYONE ELSE! THAT IS SO RARE TODAY! (I'll probably frame of these photos and then buy another copy of the book!)
This book kept my interest. The author was very frank.
The author did an excellent job of capturing Amanda's deadpan, straight-talking without ever seeming attention hungry, style of telling her life story. What I did not know is what a sex fiend Ms Lepore is. "Dickmatized" is a delightful addition to my tranny vocab.
Amanda. Lepore. Fab. She begins by saying she wrote the book in longhand on pink scented paper. I LOLD. This is a rather large 📖 compared to the average bio. The stitching in the bind is even gold. The story is good touching on her childhood to her relationship with Michael Alig. It's authentically Amanda. The real test is trying to decide is if some of her story is truth or fantasy. Enjoy.
I read it in one sitting. Bought the book hours ago and now I sit here writing this review. If you are reading this then you are a FOOL that should have followed their gut and bought this damn book already.
I absolutely love this book. Amanda Lepore is brilliant in all ways. I wasn't expecting the book to have an actual story. I was expecting the book to be pictures and small essays about the photos. I love reading about her life and how she came to be Amanda. Her beauty was captured beautifully in all of the pictures. I have it placed on my side table now because it makes an awesome coffee table book.
Quite simply stunning. Much more than a flip and forget book, this is an in depth autobiography from Lepore's beginnings to her domination of the world as a premier spokesperson for the transgendered - a window into a fascinating world. Beautiful, high quality pictures accompany well considered text - each 'chapter' given the title of a Monroe film - accessible, hysterical, tragic, informative - in short everything I wanted as an introduction to this goddess. I would have liked a little more information about some of the photographs - it would have been nice to have faces to go with the names - but this is a small criticism - not enough to detract rom a five star review. Highly recommended indeed!
5.0 out of 5 stars Don't Judge Trans Glam Gal: Amanda Lepore, Solely For her Appearance. She's Actually, Very Relatable.
Fabulous book!! Very relatable upbringing. People should read Amanda Lepore's book because they will soon discover that despite her many surgeries, the peroxided hair, and the sexual public image, there is very much a lady behind the glamour.

As a fellow trans woman, I was moved by her story, and her frankness. Amanda deserves credit for being a unique person with a genuine soul and an Icon of self-creation.
5.0 out of 5 stars Totalmente satisfecho!
El libro llegó en perfectas condiciones. Es un libro muy bien hecho, con mucha atención en los detalles. Pesa bastante para su tamaño, lo lógico en libros de tapa dura y hecho en buenas calidades.
