In a world co-populated by humans and cartoon characters, Alvin, Simon and Theodore meet in elementary school and become best friends. They later emigrate to Hollywood and after appearing as extras on commercials and live-action television series, star in the successful television series Alvinnn!!! and the Chipmunks in the early 2010s. When Simon gets his own Superman-inspired show, Super Simon , the two go their separate ways and both series are continues.
Seven years later, Alvin is a successful but disillusioned insurance salesman while Simon, now rendered in anime thanks to a special surgery operating machine designed to alter toon's bodies, spends most of his time on the fan convention circuit. The two are contacted by their old co-star Dave, who owes money to the criminal Valley Gang due to his favorite music disc addiction. Dave warns the pair of a trafficking operation where toons are kidnapped, have their appearances altered, and are shipped overseas to produce bootlegs of their works for the rest of their lives. Later that night, the two are informed that Dave has been kidnapped. They meet Police Captain Patrick and Amanda; the latter reveals himself to be a big The Chipmunks fan, and with the police's hands tied, he suggests Alvin, Simon and Theodore investigate on their own.
Alvin and Simon visit Panhuto Pistoles, Dave's music disc dealer, and ask about the Valley Gang. They are taken to the uncanny valley part of town and meet the gang's leader, Cute Rob-a bootlegged Robin Hood—and his henchmen Mat the ??? and Jack the hyena. Realizing they are investigating his bootlegging business, Rob tries to capture the pair, but the chipmunks escape. The two later share their discoveries with Amanda's, learning that he is shunned by Captain Patrick due to acting on a bad tip and raiding Nickelodeon Junior Studios with negative results. With Amanda's help, the chipmunks sneak into a bathhouse to steal Rob's fitness tracker. They trace his movements to a dock warehouse, though it is already abandoned by the time the police arrive. Inside, they find Rob's operating machine, along with several toon parts, including Dave's hair.
At the police station, the pair argue over the loss of Dave and their past feud but smell the scent of Dave's cologne. Realizing either Captain Patrick or Amanda is working with Cute Rob, the two flee the station. At the ongoing Fan Con, they try to convince Ugly Timon to ask his FBI contacts for help, but Rob and his henchmen arrive, having tracked Simon using his social media posts. In the ongoing chase, Mat is restrained by Lori and Pepe & sent to jail, but Alvin is caught by Rob and Jack and taken to the warehouse. Amanda is also lured there by Captain Patrick, revealing he is part of the Valley Gang and has been covering for Rob, including giving Amanda the false Nick Jr. tip.
Cute Rob has Amanda call Simon to lure him to the warehouse, but Amanda sends a coded message using her favorite The Chipmunks episode, "Geizmo's Day Out". Simon realizes Amanda is in trouble and contacts Brittany, Jeanette, Eleanor and Theodore, as their pals, for help. Simon enters the warehouse using a firework, which gets lodged into the machine and stops it before it can be used on Alvin. The machine's lasers goes haywire, transforming Jack into a dwarf and Rob into a giant amalgamation of various toons. While Amanda fights and defeats Patrick, Rob chases Alvin and Simon through the warehouse, revealing it to also be where the bootlegs are filmed. The chipmunks lure Rob to the docks and use a ploy from a "The Chipmunks" episode, "Bathroom Bully" to trap him.
The FBI, led by Ugly Timon, arrive to arrest Cute Rob, who fires a cannonball at Alvin, but Simon takes the hit. Alvin fears Simon is dead and apologizes for his behavior over the years, but Simon reveals he was protected by a golden pog Alvin gave him. The chipmunks free all the bootlegged toons, including Dave, who has been used for a bootleg version of Ron Stoppable and the Chipmunks reunite. Simon introduces them to Amanda, who decides to open her own detective agency. As the team departs, Simon again proposes a The Chipmunks reboot, but Alvin insists on seeing the script first.
The end credits show the Valley Gang in prison, as well as Cute Rob sent to the mental hospital, Dave restored to normal, and the The Chipmunks reboot being released to great success.

Will Alvin And The Chipmunks 5 ever happen? Here's everything we know about the sequel, including updates, story details, and characters.
The franchise has been wildly successful but is Alvin And The Chipmunks 5 likely to happen? The Fox movie franchise (now owned by Disney) is based on the iconic signing rodents; Alvin And The Chipmunk s made their debut as the band behind the aptly named "The Chipmunk Song (Christmas Don't Be Late)" way back in 1958. The group was the brainchild of singer/songwriter Ross Bagdasarian Sr, who acted as a manager for the virtual group, using the stage name Dave Seville. Bagdasarian sang all the songs himself with the pitch of his voice altered to achieve the chipmunk effect.
The Alvin And The Chipmunks group consists of Alvin himself - who is considered the bad boy of the band - Theodore and Simon. The popularity of the group led to albums, comic books, and animated TV shows. They finally reached the big screen in 2007's Alvin And The Chipmunks , with Jason Lee playing their manager Dave, Justin Long voicing Alvin, and David Cross as the Chipmunks' villain Ian Hawke. The critical reception was mostly negative, though both the movie and its soundtrack became big hits. Alvin And The Chipmunks: The Squeakquel became an even bigger success in 2009, grossing nearly $450 million worldwide.
The most recent entry was 2015's Alvin And The Chipmunks: The Road Chip , which grossed $235 million, but once again, faced a negative critical reaction. The movie was still a success, so is Alvin And The Chipmunks 5 likely to happen?
Despite Alvin And The Chipmunks: The Road Chip 's better reception in comparison to Alvin and the Chipmunks: Chipwrecked , the general audience's interest in the Chipmunks' adventures seems to have subsided. While other animated sequels like Trolls 3 have been announced, by early 2022, there have been no updates on a possible sequel, and the only major project involving Alvin, Simon, and Theodore in recent times has been the 3D-animated show Alvinnn!!! and the Chipmunks , which also includes the Chippettes, Brittany, Jeanette, and Eleanor.
Alvin And The Chipmunks 5 doesn't currently have a release date or synopsis, and there's a chance The Road Chip might have been the last entry in the series. While the movies might never have been critical hits, they still have a large fanbase. Alvin And The Chipmunks: The Road Chip made money for pre-Disney Fox , but it also was the most expensive to make and grossed $100 million less than Alvin And Chipmunks: Chipwrecked . With profits decreasing and fans getting older and moving on to other things, the chances of Alvin And The Chipmunks 5 appear slim. But if a new Alvin and the Chipmunks were to be made soon, the earliest possible release date would fall around early 2023.
Following a highly publicized merger, Disney now owns major Fox franchises like X-Men and Alien . This also includes the Alvin And The Chipmunks movie series. This makes Alvin And The Chipmunks 5 even less likely, and if Disney has any plans to continue the series, a total 2D or 3D-animated reboot a few years down the line is much more likely.
While there's always a chance Alvin And The Chipmunks 5 could press ahead, it appears the current incarnation of the live-action franchise is finished. It's too valuable a property to shelf permanently, but there's little sign of when the next entry will arrive.

Alvin and the Chipmunks , originally David Seville and the Chipmunks or simply The Chipmunks , are an American animated virtual band and media franchise created by Ross Bagdasarian for a novelty record in 1958. The group consists of three singing animated anthropomorphic chipmunks named Alvin, Simon, and Theodore. They are managed by their human adoptive father, David "Dave" Seville.
Bagdasarian provided the group's voices sped up to create high-pitched squeaky voices (which wasn't entirely new to him, having worked on " Witch Doctor " earned the record two Grammy Awards for engineering).
" The Chipmunk Song " became a number-one single in the United States. After Bagdasarian died in 1972, the characters' voices were provided by his son Ross Bagdasarian Jr. and the latter's wife Janice Karman in the subsequent incarnations of the 1980s and 1990s.
A CGI -animated TV series reboot, titled ALVINNN!!! and the Chipmunks , premiered on Nickelodeon on August 3, 2015. In 2019, The Chipmunks received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame .
Through the successful franchise, the Chipmunks have become one of the most successful children's artists of all time. It has garnered two number-one singles on the Billboard Hot 100 and won five Grammy Awards, having four Top 10 albums on the Billboard 200 and three certified platinum albums. "The Chipmunk Song" became one of the best-selling singles of all time at 5 million physical copies sold.
On November 2, 2021, Bagdasarian Productions announced it would sell the property for $300 million. Paramount Global was reported as one of the interested buyers. [1]
In 1958, Ross Bagdasarian Sr. released a novelty song (as David Seville) about being unsuccessful at love until he found a witch doctor who told him how to woo his woman. The song was done by Bagdasarian in his normal voice, except for the "magic" words, done first in Bagdasarian's pitched-up, pre-Chipmunk voice, then in a duet between his pitched-up voice and his normal voice. The words themselves are nonsense: "Oo-ee, oo-ah-ah, ting-tang, walla-walla, bing-bang".
The song was a hit, holding number one for three weeks in the Billboard Top 100 chart. Nothing makes any reference to chipmunks, but the song is sometimes included on Chipmunk compilations as if the Chipmunks had provided the voice of the Witch Doctor.
