Flynt decided to open a new, higher-class bar, which would also be the first in the area to feature nude hostess dancers; he named it the Hustler Club. From 1968 onward, with the help of his brother Jimmy and later his girlfriend Althea Leasure, he opened Hustler Clubs in Akron, Cleveland, Columbus, Cincinnati, and Toledo, Ohio.
Althea, now a morphine addict, visits Flynt and reveals her HIV diagnosis; disgusted to learn that the Hustler staff won't even shake her hand, Flynt arranges a company meeting via phone call and fires everyone. Althea comes to live with him, but later drowns in the bathtub after passing out.

While fighting for his freedom in court, Flynt married his fourth wife, 24-year-old Althea Leasure, who had appeared in Hustler as the July 1975 centerfold and worked her way up to editorial director of the magazine. After a series of unsuccessful relationships, Flynt finally found the love of his life in the bisexual Leasure.
Althea Flynt is buried in the Flynt family cemetery plot, located on Lakeville in Salyersville, Kentucky. In the 1996 movie The People vs. Larry Flynt she was portrayed by Courtney Love, who was nominated for a Golden Globe for her performance. Althea Flynt has several misspellings.
