Alpha Phi Sorority
A Loyal Sisterhood of Women Courageously Pursuing Limitless Excellence
Alpha Phi's symbols are our greek letters, the ivy leaf, our crest, and Ursa Major.
The innovative leadership and organizational practices of Alpha Phi's Founders in 1872 set the spirit for the Alpha Phi of today...a sisterhood that values the past but looks forward to the progress offered by the future.
Our creed was written by Annette Holt Hitchcock (Pi-North Dakota) in 1912.
Whether “home” is a large house or a chapter suite, living in an Alpha Phi facility or in close proximity to your sisters means never missing the moments that matter. Moments like getting ready for formal together, sharing coffee before a big test or a late-night snack after a night of studying, preparing for game days, watching your favorite Netflix shows the next morning, and so much more.
The purpose of 1872 Properties is to support the Fraternity and its collegiate chapters by enhancing the Alpha Phi experience through ensuring the existence of safe, competitive, and well-managed chapter facilities.

150 Ways to Celebrate 150 Years of Alpha Phi
Alpha Phi’s uniqueness is rooted in the spirit of innovation originated by Alpha Phi’s ten Founders in 1872. As they made history as the first female students on campus, several decided that they were not satisfied with merely participating in the classroom. Denied admission to the men’s fraternities, our Founders chose to create their own fraternity for women.
Alpha Phi International Fraternity is more than just a Greek organization—it’s a community of empowered women supporting one another for a lifetime. Our sisterhood stretches across the United States and Canada with 172 collegiate chapters and a global network of high-achieving alumnae. When you join Alpha Phi, you’re welcomed by a community of more than 270,000 members committed to lifelong friendships, leadership, academic excellence, personal growth, and community involvement. Alpha Phi is always working to improve and grow. Continue reading to learn more about our history but also about our future—the new programs and resources we are developing and implementing to strengthen our organization.
We’ve developed a fresh slate of effective and empowering programs to actively support these ideals and encourage our sisters’ growth, education, health and well being. Together, with the generous assistance of Alpha Phi Foundation, we’ve partnered with subject-matter experts to bring our members the best of the best.
The ambition and vision of our revolutionary Founders thrives today through the actions and dedication of Alpha Phi’s collegians and alumnae. As sisters, we hold one another to the high standards set forth by the guiding principles of our Founders: sisterhood, innovation, generosity, and character.
Alpha Phi has always been an innovative organization. Read about the different firsts throughout our history.

You probably know her as Annie Banks from the Father of the Bride series, which was her breakthrough role. Before starring in a movie opposite Steve Martin, this famous Phi attended Northwestern University. She filmed Father of the Bride during her college years, but returned to the university to complete her degree. Williams-Paisley's most recent role is in the television show Nashville. She is married to country singer Brad Paisley, and gave birth to their second child in April 2009. I bet you can guess what Brad Paisley's favorite sorority is!
