Six years after authorities first uncovered Australia's most depraved child abuse case, Betty Colt (pictured), a court pseudonym, has shared photos on social media with the family motto
Other members of the incest cult including Betty Colt's nephew have also shared photos using the family motto (pictured)
The photos had a pink graphic and love hearts framing the bottom of the photo alongside phrase 'love makes a family', News Corp revealed.
A Facebook quiz Betty Colt filled out also described the woman as a 'fun mum' whose 'children love (her) because there is never a dull moment with (her) around'.
The family of 38 were separated by officials after they were found living in squalid conditions in 2012 with no running water, toilets or electricity, 328km west of Sydney.
Welfare officers removed 12 inbred, illiterate and malnourished children from the bush camp including five of Betty Colt's children - one she conceived with her own father.
Many of the children did not know how to brush their teeth, slept in dirty beds among cigarette butts and rotting food, couldn't wash their hair or use toilet paper and had facial deformities.
Once in care they told officials of horrific sexual abuse by adults and by siblings on the isolated farms, on children as young as 12.

Judge Peter Johnstone, president of the Children's Court of NSW, forbade Betty Colt, some of her brothers and sisters and her daughter Raylene from living with some family members.
However, Betty Colt has continued to share messages and love hearts on social media where a family member believed to be her son has also posted a photo with the same 'love makes a family' sticker, the publication reported.
Other members of the incest cult including Betty Colt's nephew Karl have also shared photos using the family motto.
The family matriarch spent a year in prison in 2014 for trying to kidnap two of her sons, Bobby, 15, and Billy, 14, from foster care.
While some family members including Tammy, Betty's oldest child, have relocated and started new relationships.
Other incestuous cult members, Jed and Karl - Betty's sister Martha's children -reportedly stay in touch with their aunty.

Previous research suggests that children dealing with the asthma are at a greater risk for experiencing psychological maladjustment than children without asthma. Research also suggests that coping is a factor in psychological adaptation to chronic stressors such as physical illnesses. The question as to how coping relates to psychological functioning and quality of life in the paediatric asthma population has not yet been answered. The objective of the current study was to examine the relationships among coping, psychological functioning and quality of life in children diagnosed with asthma and to investigate the relationship that mothers' quality of life has with these variables.
Forty-seven youths (aged 8-15 years) diagnosed with asthma completed measures of coping with asthma and quality of life. Each youth's mother completed measures of her child's coping, psychological functioning and her own quality of life.
Mothers and children with asthma both reported that children used significantly more approach coping than avoidant coping when dealing with asthma. Three regression analyses indicated that avoidant coping negatively predicted psychological functioning, child's quality of life and mother's quality of life. Bivariate analyses also indicated a positive relationship between child's quality of life and mother's quality of life.
Results indicate that, in children with asthma, coping style plays an important role in the child's psychological functioning and quality of life and mother's quality of life. Therefore, it is recommended that type of coping be assessed when developing comprehensive treatment plans for children with asthma. Further research is needed to determine the efficacy of focused coping interventions in improving quality of life and psychological functioning in children with asthma.
... Living with asthma poses challenges of different sorts: to children and the other family members individually, as well as to the family as a whole (Kazak 1989). A growing body of research (Brown et al. 2008;Everhart et al. 2008; Marsac et al. 2006; Van Gent et al. 2007) consistently shows that children with asthma and their parents/caregivers are at risk for decreased psychological functioning, well-being, and quality of life (QoL). Despite the evidence underscoring that this health condition can be associated with a wide range of impairments of functioning and well-being and the consensual view that asthma can be best understood within a family-contextual approach Josie et al. 2007;Minuchin et al. 1978), the majority of research has examined parents' and children's adaptation separately (Annett et al. 2010). ...
... A well established fact is that asthma has a significant impact on the children's quality of life (e.g., Hesselink et al. 2004;Van Gent et al. 2007). Reflecting the tendency for the assessment of negative outcomes that has largely dominated research on adaptation to asthma during previous decades, a considerable amount of research consistently showed an increased risk for the development of psychopathology in children with asthma (Marsac et al. 2006) . In terms of psychological adjustment, anxiety disorders, behavior problems, and lower self-esteem have been systematically reported as more prevalent in children and adolescents with asthma (Vila et al. 2003). ...
... Within the literature on adults with chronic illness, Costanzo et al. (2006) found that decreased quality of life and distress correspond with the utilization of avoidant coping styles. Similar findings have been replicated within European American child populations (Frank et al. 1997; Marsac et al. 2007 ). Steele et al. (1999) found that externalizing behavior problems were positively correlated with avoidant coping strategies in a sample of African American children; however, these findings were not consistent over time. ...
... Of potential interest and similar to the CSD mean reported by Steele et al. (2008b, M = 10.26), the current study's CSD overall mean (M = 12.98), which includes children from all ethnic groups, is somewhat higher than previous research (Steele et al. 2003 Further research is also needed to assess whether and how RAS is beneficial or detrimental to psychological functioning. Some studies that have examined clinical outcomes have indicated that RAS was detrimental and linked to negative psychological or physical consequences (Marsac et al. 2007; Suveg and Zeman 2004). However, Phipps (2007) and Coifman et al. (2007) suggested that RAS could be a way of maintaining a positive emotional state when dealing with sudden and traumatic stressors, such as medical illnesses. ...
There may be significant differences in coping styles across ethnicities. Previous research has suggested disparities in the number of individuals who utilize repressive adaptive coping style among cultural groups. Repressive adaptive style is a coping mechanism in which individuals report low distress levels while they actually experience high levels of stress. Developing an enhanced understanding of the prevalence of the utilization of repressive adaptive style in different ethnic groups is important for informing intervention techniques to better account for the cultural influences on mental health. The present study investigated the utilization of repressive adaptive style across American Indian (n = 31), African American (n = 53), and European American (n = 48) children in the Midwest. The age range of the children was 10 to 13 years and 50.8% were male. Dependent measures included the Children’s Social Desirability Scale and the State-Trait Anxiety Inventory for Children. Results indicated significant differences in reports of anxiety between ethnic groups. Additionally, it was discovered that African American and European American children utilized repressive adaptive style more than American Indian children, albeit not significantly. Because of the high rates of suicide and emotional distress believed to be experienced by American Indian children this result is interesting. Continued research investigating protective factors, such as high levels of cultural identity and connectedness, is warranted. © 2017 Springer Science+Business Media, LLC, part of Springer Nature
... were not significantly associated with mental health problems or asthma-related quality of life, but this was in a sample of primarily middle-SES White youth (Marsac, Funk, & Nelson, 2007) . ...
... First, we assessed emotional and conduct problems, in order to examine the role of mental health in the relation between coping and asthma outcomes. Second, we utilized both parent and child reports of coping, mental health, and asthma control, while prior research has typically relied on either parent or child report (see Marsac et al., 2007 for an exception). Multi-informant reports allow for a more thorough assessment of child behavior and decrease the likelihood that results are due to shared method variance (Compas et al., 2012). ...
This study examined cross-sectional associations among coping, mental health, and asthma outcomes in racially/ethnically diverse urban children. Children (N = 42; 65% female) ages 9 to 17 (M = 11.9) years old and their parents reported on the child’s coping, emotional and conduct problems, asthma control, and school missed due to asthma. Higher child and parent reported secondary control coping was correlated with fewer mental health problems and better child reported asthma control. Child reported emotional problems partially accounted for associations between child and parent reported secondary control coping and child reported asthma control. Secondary control coping may improve asthma by reducing emotional difficulties.
... [6][7][8] Some studies suggest that certain maladaptive coping strategies are associated with negative outcomes. For example, avoidant coping (ie, distancing one's self from the stressor without addressing it) has been reported to negatively predict psychological functioning in 8-to 15-yearold children diagnosed with asthma 9 and increased symptoms of depression, anxiety, and distress in 7to 18-year-old cancer patients. 10 Other findings suggest that increased use of certain adaptive strategies is associated with positive outcomes. ...
... On this measure, participants are asked to indicate whether they use a given coping strategy, and, if so, how often they use each strategy (which results in a "how often" or overall frequency variable). In preparation for data analyses, responses from the older version (for youth ages [13][14][15][16][17][18] were collapsed into the dichotomous scale of the younger version (for youth ages [7][8] [9] [10][11][12] in order to analyze the responses from all youth simultaneously. 25 For the purposes of this study, participants were asked to complete the questionnaire while thinking about having to cope with their SCI (ie, the identified stressor). ...
Coping and participation are important adjustment outcomes of youth with spinal cord injury (SCI). Research addressing how these outcomes are related is limited.
This cross-sectional study examined relationships between coping and participation in youth with SCI.
Youth ages 7 to 18 years were recruited from 3 hospitals specializing in rehabilitation of youth with SCI. The Kidcope assessed coping strategies, and the Children's Assessment of Participation and Enjoyment (CAPE) examined participation patterns. Point biserial and Pearson correlations assessed relationships among variables, and hierarchical multiple regression analyses examined whether coping significantly contributed to participation above and beyond significant demographic and injury-related factors.
The sample included 294 participants: 45% female, 65% Caucasian, 67% with paraplegia. Mean age was 13.71 years (SD = 3.46), and mean duration of injury was 5.39 years (SD = 4.49). Results indicated that higher levels of social support and lower levels of self-criticism predicted higher participation in informal activities, lower levels of social withdrawal predicted participation in informal activities with a greater diversity of individuals, lower levels of blaming others predicted higher enjoyment of informal activities, and higher levels of cognitive restructuring predicted participation in formal activities with a greater diversity of individuals and in settings further from home.
Results suggest higher levels of social support and cognitive restructuring and lower levels of self-criticism, social withdrawal, and blaming others predicted favorable participation outcomes. Interventions for youth with SCI that encourage higher levels of positive coping strategies and
