With Matt Reeves The Batman arriving in cinemas with incredible reviews everyone and their martial arts training butler are going and watching the latest installment of this beloved franchise. The movie is amazing in my opinion with a number of amazing scenes and “villains”.
While everyone is paying attention to this modern classic I want to bring the original monologue from one of the most critically acclaimed comic writers Alan Moore in his dark 1988 comic ‘The Killing Joke’. Whilst the recent film has hinted at a return of a certain iconic villain this is personally my favourite monologue from the Clown Prince of Crime.
“All It Takes Is One Bad Day…” Here is the Iconic Monologue from the Joker in this monologue, The Joker believes he’s won and proven that even the sanest person is only one bad day away from becoming like himself and now is trying to convince batman of the lunacy and dark side of human beings, and like all great villains monologues, he has a point.
The YouTube video I’m linking doesn’t have the exact same wording with slight alterations made by the incredible Mark Hamill for the not-so-well received movie adaptation but it gives an idea of what you can do.
While I always say to interpret things as your head, I will clarify that this is the Joker monologuing to Batman trying to get him on his side. He’s can’t understand why he wouldn’t be and taht’s why the final two lines are so important, play around with what emotion you want as this could be performed in a number of ways but You need a clear emotion and I recommend its different to how the rest of the monologue is performed. In the original, the Joker is almost desperately asking, the final two lines, almost like he’s seeking reassurance that he’s not wrong for his beliefs. Play around in case you wish to try different emotions but the general idea is ‘To convince’.

You must see the reality of the situation. Do you know how many times we've come close to world war three over a flock of geese on a computer screen? Do you know what triggered the last world war? An argument over how many telegraph poles Germany owed its war debt creditors! Telegraph poles! Ha ha ha ha HA! It's all a joke! Everything anybody ever valued or struggled for... it's all a monstrous, demented gag! So why can't you see the funny side? Why aren't you laughing?”
