Part of a Set / Slideshow of images documenting the World Naked Bike Ride (WNBR) held in Brighton on Sunday 12th June 2011 - which was a trifle cold and wet and breezy.
The event is part of a global movement to promote a number of issues including cycling, road safety, oil dependency and consumption, low carbon and air pollution "green" environmental issues, health and exercise, the body and body art, alternative sexuality, exhibitionism and voyeurism.
The set description includes information on how to adjust your flickr settings to allow the viewing of all these images, most of which which have been set to "moderate" or "restricted" and which therefore may not be visible when viewed using default flickr account settings.

However, my new camera isn't very convenient for carrying while I'm cycling, so I used that one before and after the ride, and my older one during the ride. At one point, the lens must have rubbed on my hand and got a small amount of grease from my sun protection spray, which has lowered the quality of some of these photos, but as soon as I noticed it and gave it a rub, the quality increased again.

Today is World Naked Bike Ride Day and just to add to all the special interest groups protesting in Parliament Square and Whitehall, a couple of groups of these cyclists flashed down past Downing Street on their way to their final destination of Hyde Park to rally with other naked cyclists. Unicycling several miles did not look comfortable but the unicyclist seemed entirely happy as he passes Downing Street. Fortunately for us all Bozza stayed off his bike.
[Technically I was happy with this shot since I managed to pan reasonably well and by chance, no digital manipulation (of the image) was necessary for it to be "safe" - the pink "thing" is a the back of Boris Bike.]

The World Naked Bike Ride staging area at Coronation Park on the waterfront. After leaving the Park the actual ride snakes through many neighbourhoods in Toronto, including, Trinity Bellwoods, Queen's Park, Yorkville, Kensington Market, U of T and several others.
The World Naked Bike Ride (WNBR) is an international clothing-optional bike ride in which participants plan, meet and ride together en masse on human-powered transport (the vast majority on bicycles, but some on skateboards and inline skates), to "deliver a vision of a cleaner, safer, body-positive world."
The ‘World Naked Gardening Day’ is an annual event which is aimed at a bit of fun in the garden, and gardening in your birthday suit. It has developed after global success of the Big Naked Bike Ride which takes place in many cities each year.
My message to accompany todays theme is however a little more serious, and as ‘The (Real) Full Monty’ has also generated an annual event were celebrities’ strip naked to raise awareness of the more intimate cancer conditions, I likewise send a message.
Testicular and Prostate cancers in men are often overlooked and left untreated, much like Bowel cancer. Much of this is due to our embarrassed view on talking about it and getting ourselves checked out. Even if nothing is suspected. In the same way, Cervical and Breast cancer in women can equally go undetected through lack of screening.
As with ‘The Full Monty’ and The Naked Gardener, my message is clear, get yourself checked out and urge your partners and friends to get themselves checked out as well. I did. You never know, you may help save a life.
Fortunately, I have only suffered a couple of instances of skin cancer. But I continue to get screened for Testicular, Prostate and Bowl cancers. I have a need to keep my health because of our son, but also to live. If you haven’t been screened, don’t delay.
In case you were wondering if I did actually strip naked for this, well …… 😁
