At 8:30 pm Sunday, East Contra Costa Fire Protection District firefighters responded to a report of a bicyclist struck by a vehicle at Big Break Road and Vintage Parkway.
According to firefighters, the 14-year-old suffered major injuries but did not elaborate any further. A medical helicopter was requested where it landed nearby at Carol Lane and Main Street.
Update – According to Battalion Chief Jeff Burris, the patient was pulseless and not breathing on E193’s arrival. E193 started CPR and got a return of spontaneous circulation. The patient was flown to John Muir Medical Center in Walnut Creek. The patient suffered major head, chest and femur trauma.
Oakley police stated in a brief press release that the driver of the vehicle is cooperating with the investigation and the area of Big Break Rd and Vintage Parkway was expected to be closed for several hours as police investigate.
Motorists were advised to use Vintage Parkway from Main St. to access the Vintage Parkway Subdivision.
No further information was provided by either Oakley Police or the East Contra Costa Fire Protection District.
The City of Oakley announced Monday that the 14-year-old youth had passed. His family was by his side and school officials have been notified.
