I have Alexa devices in almost all rooms. Is it possible for me to use them as a sort of Siren? While Hubitat is armed, and motion happens, can I play some siren sound from Alexa?
I cannot seem to find any Siren device meeting my needs. Zooz has a siren, but I am reading bad reviews. Dome has a siren but seems ugly and with no additional sensors.
Is it possible for me to use them as a sort of Siren?
It may be possible to play something via @tonesto7 's Echo Speaks integration. However, I would strongly recommend not being cloud dependent for a siren. I have the Aeotec Doorbell 6 , which also doubles as a siren. It has worked well for ~2 years.
@aaiyar Any idea of where to get these? Cant seem to find them available anywhere
A simple doorbell seems simple make. It’s not. By the time you make it wireless, power its button with a battery, and then enhance its security with 3 separate layers of encryption, something simple to install and simple to use is suddenly complex to...
@aaiyar Cool... I'm not sure that I need to button. Is the siren/doorbell part the same as the siren without the button?
@aaiyar Nice... one more question, is the "strobe" bright or just a "glow" I want the strobe part to flash bright. And can you activate the light without the audible siren?
It is pretty bright (the color is a daylight white). And yes, you can activate the strobe alone.
Thanks for all of the good info.... I am replacing a linear (go control) siren/strobe that the battery won't last hardly at all... it is also a bit cantankerous.
The aeotec siren 6 is also available on Amazon.
I use an Aeotec Gen 5 doorbell as my siren/notification device. Unfortunately, the Gen 5 doorbell is no longer available. The nice thing is that you could program 99 separate alarm signals. The newer Gen 6 is limited.
I also have Echo Speaks. I use Echo Speaks to announce things like "the washer has finished", but I would not want to rely on it as my only alarm. It your Internet connection is down or intentionally disabled, then it would not work.
If you use a combination of Aeotec Siren and Echo Speaks you can have the siren alert you with a tone and Echo Speaks provide you with specific details of the alert. That is the best of both worlds.
Echo Speaks can be used to play some sounds as well as "music" with supported Alexa devices (there are several sound effects libraries in amazon music, for example).

“Play Alarm Sounds on Echo Devices is available in the US only at this time.”
I think I’m nearing the end of my tether with ring and their USA only products. Will be selling all my ring items very soon.
After a number of years I've had ring alarm system and requested the feature to be available, it looks like it's finally here.
Now your echo speakers will activate a siren if there's an alarm, which makes more sense than the dome sirens ring sells
Also entry/exit and contact sensors is an option.
Awesome, I was just thinking about this last night! Just needed to activate it in Alexa app, too easy.
Funny - I just bought and installed a dome siren yesterday. If only this news came sooner…
Just an FYI. You can link your outdoor or indoor cams to the alarm so that the siren on the camera(s) also activates when your siren on the base station starts alarming.
Yeah I know that one. Quite handy as it’s near the front of the house for added effect
How do I setup my Alexa devices to play the siren?
This is because i tweeted them last week complaining about the ridiculous number of routines I had to create to hear the chimes everywhere in my 1600 sqft home. It's kind of dumb that it doesn't work with my fire tv cube though

Simply say, "Alexa, open emergency siren," and Alexa will say "Alert" followed by a sound effect , followed by "phew, that was close."
By default, Alexa's alarm sound is a series of chimes , which are nice, but can become grating easily. Luckily, you can change this alarm in a variety of ways. Here's how to change Alexa's alarm, using the Alexa app for iPhone and Android devices.
It plays security siren and alert to scare off any intruders. ... To start, just say "Alexa, start Security Siren" or "Alexa, launch Security Siren".
Description. When you want to wake the family, play with the kids or trick your friends, a police siren comes in handy. Just say "Alexa, open Police Car" or " Alexa, play Police Car" .
You can ask Amazon Alexa to play a specific song, playlist, artist, or genre as your alarm. The feature supports several music services, so it can pull alarm tones from Amazon Music, Spotify, Pandora, TuneIn, SiriusXM, and iHeartRadio .
In your alert will be a button that says “Drop In On Echo .” According to Amazon, "When you tap that button, it will establish an audio connection between the phone that received the notification, and the Echo that detected the alarm or glass break sound." Thus, you can now listen in real time to the sounds of home.
Alarms and notifications are too loud That's because alarm and timer volume is controlled separately within the Alexa app . To set the alarm, timer and notification volume, open the Alexa app on Android or iOS and go to Devices > [your device name] > Sounds and drag the slider to the volume level you want.
By default, all Echo smart speakers include a feature called Alexa Guard , which can alert you to the sound of broken glass or smoke alarms. ... More interestingly, Alexa can bark like a dog if it detects suspicious activity, or ring like a siren if a fearless intruder slips into your home.
Description. This skill will help you scare any potential burglars or intruders away from your house or room. If you hear noises at night and suspect someone is around, use this skill!!
Description. If you think there is an intruder in your house this skill uses Alexa to make them think twice and encourages them to leave. Alexa pretends to turn on audio and video recording and also pretends to call the Emergency Services .
Guard Dog can help deter criminals by playing dog barking, growling, and snarling sounds while you're away. ... To have Guard Dog speak, just say " Alexa , tell Guard Dog to Speak". To interact with Guard Dog, just say "Alexa, open Guard Dog".
Can Alexa call 911? Not directly, no. Due to regulatory compliance, you cannot currently use Alexa to call 911 . However, you can add an Amazon Echo Connect device to your existing landline or VoIP service to call 911 using Alexa.
While both Apple and Google have offered different voices, it's a new feature for Alexa. Till now, Alexa has offered celebrity voices such as Samuel L. Jackson, Shaquille O'Neal, and Melissa McCarthy , but now one can choose between the feminine and masculine voices.
You can ask, “Alexa, wake me up to [song name] by [artist] at [time]”, or even just an artist radio by not specifying a song. It works with AmazonMusic, Apple Music, Spotify, Pandora, SiriusXM, TuneIn, and iHeartRadio. ... Just say, “Alexa, wake me up to [radio station] at time” for a gentler wake up.
Installing motion detector lights is a great way to scare off anyone trying to enter your home at night. A motion detector light not only makes the person visible to you and others, but also lets a burglar know that you are monitoring your home.
Alexa Guard can help protect your home for free It uses the Echo's microphones to listen constantly after you say "Alexa, I'm leaving" and will then alert you if it hears any noises that you should know about such as glass breaking or burglar alarms sounding.
When you set Guard to Away mode, Alexa can send you Smart Alerts via notifications to your phone if an Echo device detects the sound of smoke alarms, carbon monoxide alarms, or glass breaking. ... Once you set up Alexa Guard, just say, "I'm leaving," to switch to Away mode.
But can you drop in on Alexa without them knowing? No, you can't silently eavesdrop with Alexa's drop in feature. When someone drops in to an Alexa-enabled device, that device makes a distinct ringing noise and continuously flashes a green-light , for as long as the drop in occurs. Neither can be turned off.
Tap into the menu bar on the left-hand side and then tap Settings. Next tap Alexa Privacy, and then go into Review Voice History . This is where you can check up on all of the voice recordings Alexa has captured for you.
While Alexa speakers are able to save and store short notes, they're not able to record your voice or save voice memos. ... You can also go to alexa.amazon.com to listen to what you've said and play the recordings.
While Alexa doesn't have a quiet mode , you can walk up to your Alexa unit and whisper to it, "Alexa, set volume to one." When you tell your Alexa to set a volume, the lights will flash, but it won't speak. Now, whisper the time you want Alexa to set, and Alexa will respond, but very, very quietly.
Once you've set an alarm on your Alexa, you may be wondering how it actually works. Your Alexa alarm should eventually stop by itself , however, it might take quite a while.
In the Alexa app for iOS or Android: Tap on the Echo & Alexa button in the top left. Tap on the device you want to change Alexa's voice on. ... Scroll down to the option for Alexa's Voice and tap on it. Choose either Original (the feminine voice) or New (the masculine voice).
