The island is necessary for the US president to control natural resources, including deposits of coltan, which is an important raw material for electronics, the head of the Federation Council Information Policy commission said in an interview with TASS.

The potential oil reserves in the northeast of the island are more than 30 billion barrels, which is comparable to all US oil reserves, Pushkov added.
