Chicago Bulls’ Alex Caruso Named to NBA All-Defensive First Team

Chicago, IL – May 21, 2024 – Chicago Bulls guard Alex Caruso has been named to the 2023-24 NBA All-Defensive First Team, the league announced today. This marks the first All-Defensive First Team selection of Caruso’s career, solidifying his reputation as one of the league’s premier perimeter defenders.

Caruso, known for his relentless hustle, basketball IQ, and ability to disrupt opposing offenses, received overwhelming support from voters. He finished with 45 first-team votes, ranking among the top defenders in the league alongside stars like Rudy Gobert and Bam Adebayo.

'It’s an honor to be recognized among the best defenders in the game,' Caruso said in a statement. 'Defense has always been about effort and teamwork, and I’m grateful to my coaches and teammates for pushing me every night.'

The 30-year-old guard has been a defensive anchor for the Bulls, averaging 1.7 steals and 0.8 blocks per game while often taking on the toughest backcourt assignments. His impact goes beyond traditional stats, as his deflections, charges drawn, and overall defensive presence have been crucial to Chicago’s success.

Bulls head coach Billy Donovan praised Caruso’s contributions, saying, 'Alex is the ultimate competitor. His preparation, instincts, and willingness to sacrifice for the team set the tone for us defensively.'

Caruso, who won an NBA championship with the Los Angeles Lakers in 2020, has evolved into a fan favorite in Chicago for his gritty play and leadership. With this accolade, he joins an elite group of Bulls defenders, including Michael Jordan, Scottie Pippen, and Joakim Noah.
