Aldin - scenes written tight

I write short fiction with teeth: fantasy, dark, war, and the quiet scene before the blade. Scenes, dialogue, and story beats for games and for readers.

Here is what I sound like.

Sample one: the page after the sword

Her sword is at my throat and neither of us is shaking. Below the hill the war goes on, and I have heard it so long it sounds like weather.

Her eyes drop to my hands. The light there moves before I have decided anything, answering her. It never learned to lie. I did.

Sample two: in-game dialogue (deserter)

GUARD: Stop. Name.

DESERTER: You know my name. You wrote it on the list.

GUARD: Then you know what the list is for.

DESERTER: I know what it's for. I came back anyway.

GUARD: Why.

DESERTER: Because the last man you sent up that hill was my brother. And you sent him with my name in his mouth.

GUARD: ...

DESERTER: Say it. Say you knew.

GUARD: I knew.

DESERTER: Good. Now we can be honest, and then we can be quick.
