Police set up sting after getting call during bust. Ignatius supplying drug abusers in the greater Missoula area dried up recently after a police raid and five arrests. The moral of the story may turn out to be: Don't call to make your heroin purchase while police are raiding the store. Four people from the Missoula and Alberton areas are accused of trying to buy the illegal drug, and a Mexican national living in St. Ignatius is in custody awaiting trial on the much more serious charge of distribution of heroin. At an earlier court hearing, Lupian pleaded innocent, and a pretrial hearing is scheduled for Aug. Lupian needed the assistance of a court-appointed interpreter as well as a public defender to enter his innocent plea. According to documents filed in the case, on June 29 Lake County Sheriff's Detective Andy Cannon interviewed a burglary suspect, and the suspect's residence was searched, turning up syringes, methamphetamine residue and other evidence of drug use. The suspect told investigators he knew that Lupian was selling heroin in St. Ignatius, with most of the heroin going to Missoula. Lupian allegedly was bringing in a substantial amount of heroin - 5 or 6 ounces - at a time to the Lake County area. Police say the informant, who has not been identified, agreed to purchase heroin in a controlled buy. He called Lupian, offered to buy the drug and met Lupian at an automated laundry in St. The two men then went to Lupian's residence, a trailer in St. Ignatius, where the transaction was recorded by investigators through a hidden transmitter worn by the informant. On the strength of that evidence, Lake County officers obtained a search warrant and searched Lupian's trailer. The female stated she wanted to buy heroin,' court documents stated. Durham arranged a meeting in Ravalli and prepared a bag of imitation heroin. Later that afternoon, he arrived at the rendezvous - apparently a parking lot outside a bar - and met a female later identified as Leeann Lafley. She was placed under arrest at the scene. Shortly afterward, an onlooker approached officers and said he had seen three individuals in a nearby store hiding something behind a pop machine. When officers looked behind the machine, they found a 'shooting kit' consisting of a hypodermic syringe, an elastic band and a bottle of liquid bleach. The three women who were seen hiding the kit - Srader, Ishler and Hunt - were interviewed and then arrested. Hunt and Srader contributed money to the purchase, and Ishler provided transportation,' court documents state. All three were charged with attempt criminal possession of dangerous drugs and released.
