Ski-stations within reach of Aix will still be open for another month or so, and this is a lovely time to take advantage of a day or weekend in the mountains, with the blue skies and hot sun almost guaranteed. Not being a skier, or in the slightest bit sportive, I was slightly apprehensive when, last April, we travelled up to Les Orres, my family to ski, and me to…….. I actually took a book but it turned out to be a great day out, with only one drawback see below. The holiday village of Les Orres is at m, higher than Ben Nevis, and the ski-lifts whisk you up to or m, which is like adding Snowdon on top. It was a wonderful place to walk…….. There are numerous cafes with terraces facing on to the snow and I found it fascinating to watch everyone enjoying the snow. My book was forgotten! Lunches can be taken here, or at the chalet high up on the mountainside. The resort has shops, ice-skating, and activities aimed at people staying there. This sunny south-facing village is about 2.
