The Advanced Host Controller Interface (AHCI) is a technical standard defined by Intel that specifies the register-level interface of Serial ATA (SATA) host controllers in a non-implementation-specific manner in its motherboard chipsets.
What is AHCI mode, and what does it do? AHCI (Advanced Host Controller Interface) is a mode or protocol used by SATA (Serial ATA) controllers to communicate with storage devices, such as hard drives and solid-state drives (SSDs). It was introduced as a replacement for the older IDE (Integrated Drive Electronics) mode.
I'm attempting to switch to AHCI mode, but I can't seem to locate the option within the BIOS menu. I've gone through the BIOS settings several times, but I haven't found a straightforward way to enable AHCI. Has anyone else encountered this issue with their HP BIOS? 1. Enable AHCI mode in BIOS If you've installed an SSD on your motherboard, or you're experience trouble setting it up, it is a good idea to check if AHCI is enabled or not. A confident dip into the BIOS to enable AHCI mode resulted in Windows then failing to start because it no longer recognised the boot drive! I'm guessing the AHCI driver wasn't loaded during installation since the mode wasn't in use. So back to IDE mode and a surf around for solutions.
