Standard Italian gothic giallo in which Agostina has a job at the castle as a parlour maid. A bit of a sly one I'm sorry to say, and what happens here is not entirely unexpected. What with her slipping out of her parents' cottage at midnight (full moon too!) for an 'assignation' (what they called it in those days) in the stables. The clip is a bit choppy due to scenes of a particular nosy moo being removed (typical governess type who turned back with her candelabra the one night in her life her interfering could have done any good).

A dark Italian comedy about a young bride with a bad case of honeymoon nerves. Agostina's widowed mother ( Françoise Prévost ), of decayed aristocratic stock, lives a lonely existence in one of those once-splendid mansions, now with decaying furnishings and decor a relic of a vanished age. She's had the idea of marrying her only daughter, barely out of school, off to a coarse but prosperous local tradesman. He's a pork butcher, and definitely a touch of swinishness has rubbed off on his manner.
The first clip sees Agostina on her wedding night, seeking refuge from her husband's advances in a long hot bath. The girl's cleanliness and maidenly modesty do her credit, but time is running out for virtues such as these. I give her fifteen minutes max if she really spins it out.
A little later, in the second clip matters reach their crisis. Agostina really isn't ready yet, and her husband is short on patience. (The music, the principal love theme if you like, typical Italian-style wordless female vocals, is by Ennio Morricone, and you have to wonder what il maestro was thinking of.) The screaming sacrificial virgin ends up 'nailed' in the 'crucifixion' position. One more night like that and it's back home to mother. No not to mother, away from mother, back to her old chums from school in the city. Aggie is still dressing much like a schoolgirl incidentally; she reminds me of Koo Stark in Las adolescentes (which for those who didn't click the link is a good thing ).
Finally Agostina returns, and a lot of water has been flowing under the bridge whilst Hubbie has been left stuck at home with Mother. Too-scandalous-to-mention, mid-life-crisis type things have been going on. So when the daughter steels herself to rise from her single bed one night, she has an acutely embarrassing encounter with her mother by the door of her husband's dreaded lair. It ends in uplifting fashion for the young couple, but heartbreak for poor old Mum. But let's face it she was in the wrong.

Typical Italian comedy set in the 'thirties. It makes you wonder why any man would go to the bother of organising a romantic tryst back in those days as it inevitably led to a fiasco of mortifying embarrassment (if you were lucky) or even (if you were unlucky) being hunted down and executed as an enemy of the state.
This is a case in point. Our hero throws open the window starkers for a lungful of morning air without realising Mussolini's blackshirts are holding a rally in the square below. Somewhat ungallantly he exits up the chimney, leaving Agostina to face the music alone and make the same mistake. At least she showed more common sense about what to do with her hands.
