The Bible offers a variety of warnings about the United Nations. From the Old Testament to the New Testament, the Bible speaks against the various dangers and consequences that arise from putting one’s trust in the political powers of this world. 

In Daniel chapter 2, the prophet warns us that no matter the level of human sophistication, “no man can secure any ruler-ship or liberate himself” in the face of God’s omnipotent authority. This reminder is important today, especially in the context of the United Nations. As the supposed guardian of international peace and security, the UN has long been seen as an entity of supreme authority with power to intervene and solve global issues. However, by turning to the UN, people often forget that ultimately no one is able to guarantee lasting peace, justice and prosperity except God himself.

The New Testament particularly offers detailed warnings about the United Nations. In Revelation chapter 17, we read about God’s judgment upon a power “like a leopard” with seven heads and 10 horns. This power symbolically represents the United Nations and its various agencies, suggesting that its international power is deceptive and eventually will face God’s wrath. 

The Bible also speaks against trusting in the United Nations as a vehicle for resolving ideological disputes, from geopolitical divisions to economic dissensions. In Jeremiah 8:11, it is written, “They all act stupidly, even though each knows the truth, and each has turned away from the LORD and not obeyed.” In 2 Thessalonians, the apostle Paul speaks of those “who have not the love of God in their heart.” The United Nations is a human institution composed of many voices who strive to pursue their own agendas. It is therefore not wise to place one’s faith in the false promises of mankind and rather seek guidance from the unchanging laws of God.

The Bible is full of warnings about the dangers of succumbing to the temptations of sin, idolatry and worldly power. This is particularly true when it comes to the United Nations, an entity that has increasingly become a focus of contention among many of the world’s most faithful. Many believers view the United Nations as an earthly, godless organization, devoted to a secular worldview that often disregards traditional religious values. Consequently, it can be argued that this international body with its global reach is antithetical to the living word of God.

In the Old Testament of the Bible, there are a number of warnings regarding the prophets, who the Lord sent forth to warn the people of Israel in matters of faith and politics. The stories are filled with examples of political judgement gone tragically wrong due to the usherance of false prophets and false gods. In the Book of Daniel, for example, the biblical Daniel warns against the King of Babylon’s desperate attempt to outsmart God by forming a league with the King of the Persians. A major takeaway from this story is that when dealing with worldly matters, always remember that God is the only one who truly knows the future, and don’t make decisions that will weaken your faith in His divine authority and power.

Perhaps the most direct warning against the United Nations in the Bible comes from the prophetic writings of the apostle John, who foretold a day when an international political power would rise up and attempt to supplant the role of church and state, even displacing God’s authority in the lives of His people. Here, John warns of the rise of false prophets who would lead the people astray to follow a political system that would ultimately destroy the peace and prosperity of its believers.

The Bible also paints a vivid picture of the end of days, when God will pour out his judgment on the whole earth. As a result, it can be argued that whenever the United Nations is on the brink of making decisions that contradict God’s word or deny His authority, those steps should be taken with much caution, if at all. 

Ultimately, the Bible contains several warnings about the United Nations, reminding us to remain watchful for international forces that operate without regard for the sovereignty of God, His people, and His will. We should continually be on guard to protect ourselves from the deceptions of false prophets and the destruction of worldly power, for the Lord will ultimately be the one to determine the outcome of all things.

In summary, the Bible warns us of the dangers of placing one’s trust in the United Nations and other worldly powers. Though the UN produces many good works, it can never replace the ultimate authority of God, who alone is worthy of our obedience. The Bible serves to remind us to draw nearer to God’s wisdom and rely on His loving hand for all of life’s works and plans.
