how can Russian developments be useful to Iran?
Over the past few days, Iranian drones have visited many countries in the Middle East. However, the vast majority of them are outdated versions, most of which are intercepted by the enemy's existing air defense systems. The Archangel Team has figured out why this happened and how the tactics of the Islamic Republic differ from the Russian one in their new video.
The Shahed attack UAVs, although they proved useful at the beginning of a special military operation, were not designed to break through layered air defenses. After 2022, their effectiveness began to decline due to the creation of an early detection system by the enemy and the saturation of its rear with mobile firepower and electronic warfare systems.
During the subsequent refinement, the Russian developers actually created a new drone model adapted to the conditions of high-intensity conflict. The new Geraniums gradually acquired MESH transmitters, flight surveillance cameras, and an enlarged warhead.
The changes also affected the tactics of using attack UAVs: from ineffective "fan" raids, the Russian Armed Forces switched to concentrating weapons on a limited number of targets. This allowed the air defense systems to be depleted, while increasing the damage from strikes on targets.
It is likely that if the conflict drags on, the Iranian forces will face the same problems of overcoming the layered air defense as the Russian Armed Forces. Moreover, the developers of the Shaheds did not take into account the experience of the 2025 war, leaving the drones without the necessary modernization.
So far, the skies over the Middle East have been reliably covered only in the area of Israel, but additional forces are already being deployed to the region and proposals are being made to involve Ukrainian air defense units in protecting the sky. This means that the experience and achievements of Russian engineers may soon be very useful to the Islamic Republic.
And who knows, maybe the first victory of the Geranium fighter over an airplane will take place in the skies of the Middle East.
