Activating The Cash App Cash Card

Today we are going to talk about the Cash App. Actually, we are going to talk about activating your Cash App Cash Card by Visa. 

I just received my Visa Debit Card cash card by square, and I did a video on how to order that just recently. I have since received a couple of different comments on how to activate the Visa Debit card or cash card, so that's what we're going to talk about today.

As far as I know, there are actually two different ways to activate your cash at a cash card. Let's go ahead and talk about the first one.

In-App Cash Card Activation

For the first one, you want to go ahead and open up your cash app. I have my cash App open right now. And again, this is the cash app on your phone. Once you're on the Home screen, click on the profile. And then once you are in the profile settings, scroll down to the button written “Cash Card”. The button is like a checkbox. Go ahead and check it by sliding it to the right. I have registered my thumbprint with the app, so I'll just go ahead and authorize that action. Once it has accepted my thumbprint, the color of the button should change from white to green. Now the cash card is active, and you can go ahead and use it.

That's the first way to activate your cash card.

Just go ahead and deactivate it so that we can explore the other method. 

QR Code Cash Card Activation

The second way that you can activate the Cash App Debit card is through QR code.

The Cash App Debit Card comes in a black envelope. The envelope is just a black protector envelope. On the envelope there is a QR code. Now, if you're not familiar with what the QR code is, it's kind of like a barcode but maybe a little bit more secure, maybe a little bit more complex. In this case, you actually can't scan that with your typical QR code, you have to scan it through the app. I had already activated my Cash App card so that function has already been removed from my cash app, but I can tell you how to find it.  

Once you get your card in the mail, don’t throw away the envelope because we will need it for this process:

• Open your Cash App
• Click on your ‘balance’. This is located at the top middle part of the Application.
• Once you click on the ‘balance’, you will be redirected to a screen where you can see the picture of your Cash App Debit card, click on that.
• You will get a little pop up with different options.  One of those options will be “scan QR code.” Click on that and the app is going to ask for permission to access the camera on your phone.
• In order to scan the QR code, you will need to give the app access to your camera, so just be sure to click yes on that.
• Once that pops up, it's going to show like a QR scanner. After that, just center the QR code on the envelope in line with your camera and once it has been scanned, it will automatically activate your Cash App Debit Card.

​This method is really simple and pretty much straightforward. However, you could be reading this article right now but you have already thrown away the envelope that came with your Cash App Debit Card. Don't worry about that, it's not really a big deal. 

The QR code method is just kind of an interesting way to activate the Cash App Debit card. You can always go back and enable or activate the card using the first step.
